We are having out of town guests in a couple weeks, which means about 2 extra cars that won't fit in our driveway. I know street parking is not allowed correct? If this is true, is there a way around this? Temporary parking permits?

Contact MPD at 973 762 3400. Tell them you're having guests, and that two cars will be parked in front of your house. They may request plate numbers. There is generally no problem getting this taken care of, as long there is no major snow storm.

Calling the MPD is fine (works like that in SO too), but - if you're on good terms with your neighbors why not ask if you can park an extra car in their driveway? Just promise to have it back on the street early so as not to inconvience them.

The problem with that is, they are going to be here all weekend, so we would basically have to keep moving cars all around....thanks though!

If it's just for the weekend, call the MPD and explain. They are usually very helpful in situations like this. Just be sure you have the plate numbers available when you call, so they will know which cars belong to your friends. Calling the day your friends arrive and giving the dates on which the cars will be there will work best.

In the past we have been able to park cars in the street overnight for several days under unusual circumstances, like when we had the driveway re-done and when we expected to be hosting a visiting sports team.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I will definitely call MPD.
