I just watched a woman in an SUV make a left turn into a parking space in town not only right in front of the "No Left Turn Into Parking Space" sign but right in front of Officer Cranky (the cop that patrols the Village) He shouted out "What do you think you're doing???" and told her "You picked the wrong time to make that turn" It was awesome |

I'm glad people DO get caught doing that! It makes me crazy Another traffic note: My Mom lives in a small town like ours - with diagonal parking spaces. Interestingly enough, there is an unwritten rule to which EVRYONE adheres: You cannot stop to wait for a spot unless the car in the spot already has on their reverse lights. i.e. You cannot wait 10 minutes while Mom loads 3 kids into the car, backing up traffic in town on Saturday morning. Why is this acceptable here? |

www.southorangevillage.com/discus does not have ad banners at the top www.maplewoodonline.com/forum/ does. I guess it just goes to show how commercial and profit hungry Maplewood really is. |

Actually Brett, Dave decides where the banners are not the Maplewood residents. What it really show is that SO is a a place no one wants to advertise because the town center looks like Spanish Harlem. Guessagain, I rolled up my windows and drove through SO the other day. |

Yea but I'm sure there is some type of entertainment tax that Maplewood is hitting him with. SO doesn't need ads, with all these Coming Soon signs, they advertise themselves |

Parent: "Timmy, why don't you consider Seton Hall next year?" Timmy: "Yuck, it's in South Orange. There are more empty storefronts than in Baghdad." |

Guess does make a good suggestion of using www.southorangevillage.com/discus to avoid seeing those annoying Bush/Cheney ads. Otherwise, I agree with the rest of the folks that downtown SO is really sad, with the exception of Bunny's, Cafe Arugula & the Dancing Goat. Although, perhaps Guess is a little too "close" to Village Hall to see things impartially about how depressed SO Village really is. |

What's sad about downtown SO is that you can't pick up the basic necessities after getting off the train at night. Milk, bread, pizza, lettuce, ice cream, dish soap. Some of the other 'basic' businesses like Blockbuster and Rite Aid are filthy and clogged with hostile, incompetent clerks. It could be my imagination, but I think Rite Aid routinely closes earlier than the posted hours. More than a few times I've walked over there at a decent hour for tylenol or cough syrup and found the place clamped shut. The milk in that place is not to be trusted. |

Ligeti, I don't know if you're an SO resident, but there's a great thread about the Rite Aid as well as the vacant Village Market property on the SO Specific thread. You are not alone in your thinking! |

Can the Maplewood police station be located in SO, at a substantial cost savings? Can Maplewood annex SO. What a plum for the new committee. One police force, one fire department, and one township staff. It would give us an abundance of flexibility in addressing costs. There would be no need for the Board of School Estimate, and we - residents - could vote on the school budget ----at last! |
