Maplewood: An Architectural Treasure, an open house at the Durand-Hedden House that will take place this Sunday, January 18, will offer an opportunity to learn about the town’s rich variety of housing styles, which include 18th century farmhouses and 19th century country estates, along with 20th century homes. The event will feature slide shows compiled by the Maplewood Historic Preservation Commission that will illustrate the town’s wonderful architectural heritage and emphasize the importance of preserving these beautiful buildings. They will take place at 1.30 and 3. There will also be an exhibit on the work of the distinguished early 20th century Maplewood architect Harold Tatton. In addition, visitors will be able to track their homes’ age using early 20th century fire insurance atlases. Children will have the chance to participate in an architectural treasure hunt. The open house will take place from 1-4 pm at the Durand-Hedden House, 523 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood. For information, call 973-763-7712. |
