It only goes up about 7 inches and no more. Gotta go to work tomorrow worried about getting car out. Any suggetions?

I believe most garage doors have a pull string to disengage the gear. Once this is done, you can raise the door manually. The string would be somewhere on a "clip" along the track, about 2 feet from the motor housing.

If the door is only going up 6-7 inches the clip will be closer to the door. It's right where the door connects to the chain.

if the door is frozen it's going to take a bit of muscle to get the door open but it will open.

If it is frozen, you can blow hot air on the mechanism to unfreeze it by using a hair dryer, once you've disengaged the automatic opener clip.

Also works on frozen water pipes, as we learned one cold winter's day!

Thanks all, will let you know the outcome. Fortunately, I didn't have to go to work today after all. So when it warms up a little I will try again.

Soemtimes I find that unplugging & re-plugging in the opener "resets" the unit & the problem goes away.
