I have a 15 year old dog, who needs to go out now! If I'm not back in 30 minutes call the rescue squad.

Wharfrat, please check in or I will have to call the rescue squad. :-)

Made it to work OK, if 30 minutes late because the trains were slowed by signal problems. To be honest I over did it, leaving the house with an old down parka, a stocking cap that makes me look like the Pillsbury Doughboy in mufti, scarve rapped around my face, etc.

It really wasn't that cold because the wind wasn't all that bad. :-(

We watched our thermometer tick down last night like we were counting down on New Year's Eve! Watched it go from 2.5 degrees to 0.9 degrees in about 45 minutes time. We were disappointed that we didn't witness it go to 0.0. Kind of like falling asleep before the ball drops at midnight.....

Brrr....haven't experienced this combination of cold and wind since living in Northern NYS, 20+ years ago.

When walking the dog, earlier this a.m. the wind-whipped snow stung, no assaulted, the little bit of skin I left exposed-my nose.

As for the dog, well it was business as usual. We left the house and he dragged me towards Memorial Park, stopping every ten feet or so to urinate.

"They" say dogs can get frostbite on certain parts of their body when they stop and relieve themselves with great frequency. Well, I'm not going to check if said body part is frostbitten, because if it is I will be required to warm it up with either lukewarm compresses, or hold it in my hands until blood circulation returns to normal.

Eww! Perish the thought.

Just heard on a Paul Harvey radio spot, it is warmer on Mars than Ithica (Sp) NY!

Is this global warming?

"That country is so cold for seven or eight Months of the year, that the Sea freezes ten foot deep, the Trees and the very Stones split, the Snow is ten or twelve Foot deep upon the Ground, for above six Months of the year, and during that season, no body can stir out of Doors, without running the risque of having their Nose, Ears and Feet mortified by the Cold."

--Baron de la Hontan, French traveler, New Voyages to North-America from
1683 to 1694, 1703.

BobK, Come on, we know you're an old Chicago boy. This here is practically balmy.

Once in Chicago I went outside when the wind chill was -65. I think the actual temperature was only -15 or so but that wind off the lake is brutal! In those conditions you have to walk backwards into the wind or your face will freeze almost instantly.

Julia, you should post that in the global warming thread in the Soapbox. :-)

Yeah, Kathy, but that was a really long time ago. :-( I still remember one of my friends in Junior High School, Toby Skinner, showing up everyday with his hair frozen. He looked like a Ken doll, but not as good looking. LOL

I'm keeping my mind off the cold by drinking hot tea and studying my gardening catalogs. At least it's sunny today!

It's times like this that I am so glad I live in Kauai.
