We are thinking of using crackle tile for a kitchen backsplash. This is ceramic tile that has cracks beneath the glaze, which is an interesting look. We found one type of crackle tile that we really like and borrowed two samples of it. After coming home we noticed that while one sample is perfectly smooth the other has surface cracks in addition to the intended cracks below the glaze. We're not sure if that it is to be expected or if this sample tile got new cracks from being dropped. So, anybody have experience with crackle tile? |

Sure, Recently, I installed a back splash for an MOL'er using white crackle tile. I would expect the finish changes that you see from Mfg to Mfg. In fact, even the one that does not look to be cracked thru the glaze likely is. Not this last job, but one I did a few years back, we took a cloth soaked in black india ink and sponged the tiles, allowing the ink to soak into the cracks and stain or darken the cracked effect. Then a clean wipe and on to mounting. Good luck! George Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the Titanic. |
