Have not seen one snow plow all day. Kudos to the DPW. I have seen several cars skidding and sliding up and down my street. |

I was just thinking the same thing. The roads are awful. No one is getting up New England Rd. (on the up side of Ridgewood) unless they have 4 wheel dirve. The cars are all sliding back down the hill to Ridgewood. Wait...I think I hear one coming...yup, a plow just went by, about time! |

A good reason to buy an SUV in my opinion. Kidding aside the plows started hitting our street around six pm. |

I almost started a new thread called "STUPID STUPID SNOWPLOW DRIVERS" but figured that would get deleted asap. Contrary to your experiences, the snowplows were out in force along Parker Avenue yesterday afternoon -- and I discover this morning, well into the night, without need. I was out for a couple of hours last night, well after the snow had stopped, shoveling off my sidewalks and my elderly neighbors' walks. I figured that even though it was dark, I should do it before it froze overnight. The neighbors on the other side also did their walks. While I was out there, the plows came by probably a half dozen times, even though by that time they were scraping nothing but pavement. SO, I WAKE UP THIS MORNING, and discover that no, five, six, ten passes weren't enough -- THEY HAD TO COME BY AGAIN AND MOVE THE SLUSH -- OVER THE PILES OF SNOW BETWEEN THE SIDEWALK AND THE GUTTER -- ONTO MY SIDEWALKS AND THOSE OF MY NEIGHBORS. And of course it's frozen solid chunk ice with no hope of thawing, and impossible to shovel. It's impenetrable. I AM MADDER than hell -- you folks above have no plowing at all, meanwhile the drivers over here are no doubt racking up severe overtime on a Sunday evening by plowing my streets over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over. I called Town Hall to complain, before anyone gets smartypants on me, but of course it's a holiday and they're all hiding behind voice mail. I am not going out there again to shovel. I've done my part. Walkers beware. |

Emmie -- we're on Sunset Terrace. Cars just weren't making it up the road. I will never ever buy a non-4 wheel drive car again. I love my Jeep Liberty! |

I think they did a better job plowing now then they did in all the snow storms we've had. Last night there were 4 plows in a row plowing my street and I never saw that before and they made the streets nice a clean. Believe it or not it wasn't even the town plows it was an outside company. Great job they did. |

Plow finally showed up around 8 pm. By then it was too late. The snow had already compacted and started to ice over on the road. They really didn't plow much that I could tell. |

Our sidewalks and driveway were cleared by a little after 5 PM. Didn't take long for the plow to come by and close us in again. Stuff at the end of the driveway is solid ice now and likely will be until the temperature moderates. Fortunately, we get to stay in today. |

Algebra, I'm with you, I love my jeep. I didn't shovel my 50+ foot, uphill driveway last night because there was solid ice under the snow. The jeep came up and out this morning like it was July. I will never own anything but four wheel, also. With my driveway a front wheel drive would have never made it up. I know, been there done that! |

Shear, yep they sure do help getting up the hill. However, being a full disclosure kind of guy I love my Explorer in bad weather. |

I got stuck in a snow rut this morning on right in Maple Ave. behind the Middle school because that street wasn't plowed. Two school bus drivers helped me out. It was a mess. I called Public Works and they said they would take care of it, but I thought they would be more careful, especially next to a school. |

Hey Mem, I think I saw you this morning. I was rushing to the train station and saw not one but two people get stuck in that spot behind the middle school. I actually suggested to the second woman that she call DPW (I did yesterday to complain about the streets in the Tuscan area.) Was that you? Glad you got out safely, BTW. (And sorry I wasn't able to help :-( |

Hi marian, I think it was me, with the little black Prelude. I was afraid I would slam out of that rut and hit someone or something! Right after you left, three people helped me, and I didn't get a chance to thank them because I couldn't stop and get stuck again, so if any of you are reading this: THANK YOU! |

My sturdy old Honda Civic took the hills pretty well, easily passing several SUVS sliding sideways. Of course the wisdom of driving a tiny white car in a snowstorm is questionable. ;-) |

Bobk - no way would I get an SUV! I would feel too guilty about consuming all that gas, much less pay for it. Besides, an SUV would have gotten stuck in that rut of snow - it was like a foot deep... |

I parked in the far pay lot this morning and it STILL wasn't plowed. By Tuesday nobody was able to get to plow this lot? Not to mention the walk to the train station - all the sidewalks were COMPLETELY covered in ice and snow. I saw several children walking to school trying not to slip and fall. Am I wrong, or if this were the case in front of my house would the town not be issuing ME a summons? Where is THEIR summons??? |

So I called Mrs. Tjohn, and it went like this: Hi Mrs. T, it's mem. Oh hi mem! How's everything? Well, I got stuck in a snow rut this morning. Goodness! Did you call Mr. T immediately with the measurements? I tried to call him on my cell from the scene, but there was no cell coverage. I did post on MOL, and he wanted to know if the rut was 18", 12" or 6". Heaven's to betsy, now how would Mr. T know about measurements that LARGE? Got me Mrs. T. Anyway, here goes: The rut was on a 60 degree curved angle with an abrupt right turn onto Maple St. Once on Maple, the rut made a sharp incline left, back towards the Middle school, and ended on steep 92 degree angle, facing the dumpster. It was of varying width and depth, starting at approximately 4.6" deep, but at the initial gentle slope towards the intersection, it made a surprising leap towards a depth of at least 7 - 9" deep with an impressive width of 24.72"!!! Now, here's the kick: The bottom of the rut was a slushy, granular mixture of about 3", terminating in a sheet of ridged blue ice with a knife sharp edge at about 4.76" deep. The edge was another surprising feature of the rut, considering the volume of traffic, it managed to maintain a it's clean, razor sharp edge. All in all, it was a decent event, except for all the honking and screaming as I went about my business with a tape measure. My clothes were sopping wet, but the doctors say I'll only lose the tips of three fingers on my right hand, two on the left, and possibly a thumb. All ten toes are lost, but who needs toes anyway? So, please report this back to Mr. Tjohn, so he can unbunch his panties. Thanks! |

mem, I see the problem right off the bat...you turned onto Maple STREET when you meant to turn on to Maple AVE. I suppose the early morning sunglare threw you off course. Maybe next time, you should go greyhound. |
