Hey Dave, can you make a separate category for Political threads? It seems that Politics just take over the Soapbox especially since most of the posts are used as a forum for one party to bash the other. I would suggest that the Soapbox be used as a forum to post about Maplewood related subjects on a local level and not have to wade through the endless back and forth between the parties. Nothing ever gets resolved and the people that are really interested can read the posts in that category.

No offense intended to anyone that posts on politics but I respectfully submit that there are enough political posts to warrant it's own category.

Isn't that why dave started "Mostly Maplewood". It doesn't appear to have worked.

However, I do think there ought to be a separate posting area just for the members of the May family to talk to each other.

Ignatius_j, it would be nice to sort all this political stuff into its own category. It’s really recalcitrant to wade through thread after thread, with one political debate after another...

I like this idea. Additionally, I've decided to ban Sbenois for four (lunar) months due to the serious nature of his last personal attack.

Am I missing something? Where's sbenois's attack? I was called a betty crocker and a shiite muslim, as well a a keeper of ovens in my garage to torture people, and nobody got kicked off for that. I though THAT was pretty bad. Did it get deleted?

Dave, I think a separate "Politics" category is definitely the way to go. Many of us who used to participate actively in Soapbox have essentially given up on it. Thanks again for your moderation.

I agree with Cathy. A separate section of the Board dedicated to political posts would be a definite help.

Mem:

Sbenois got suspended for something he said (or didn't say?) in the new Mostly Maplewood section of the Board. The whole thing is a little confusing.

Thanks Joan,
Sigh. I guess some people are allowed to be nasty, and some people aren't.

"I guess some people are allowed to be nasty, and some people aren't."

Mem, as I recall, didn't you pack it when the Straw was suspended for something he said? How did you feel about Sbenois being suspended for four (lunar) months due to the serious nature of his last personal attack?

I’m sorry for keeping this issue alive, but it really bugs me…. Regardless of whether he was really suspended or not, does anyone else besides Dave feel there was a SERIOUS personal attack against this anonymous poster? Why did he stand silent and refuse to respond when repeatedly asked to identify why he said what was said?

Being today is his day, I wonder how MLK would feel about the Sbenois comment? How about Ms. Parks, what would she say about the way her name was referenced in the bus issue by this anonymous poster? Today’s Star Ledger on the front-page states, “ Bias remains present in Jersey, poll finds.”

IMHO, playing the racial card as it was, was in bad taste. Sbenois was not the problem, regardless of what he thought he was saying, or what side he was taking... Someone else clearly had a responsibility to clear up his or her mess, but instead deliberately waited almost a week to comment. Personally, I think the wait was BULL, and the reply was weak as a fart…

Dave, this is not a joking matter. In the future if you want to hand out punishment on matters that pertain to racial comments, you should either nip them in the bud, or dig deeper into the issue. This is not the first time there were issues around the Boyden/Parker section of town. Before this recent bus slur, there were racial comments over the Chicken/rib Place that plans to open on Parker as well, and how about the Hillcrest Gates…

BTW, after all that has been said, it amazes me how anyone can still be confused about this issue. How does that statement go, Words of a Feather Flock Together???

I personally want to thank Dave for doing "Mostly Maplewood".
As a somewhat modest person, I'd like to think that my suggestion of several months ago, to separate Maplewood topics, was heard.

Mostly Maplewood is beginning to show signs of life on uniquely Maplewood topics.

Soapbox is just fine as it is.

Just created SOAPBOX: All Politics area. We'll see how it goes. I haven't filtered the existing topics thoroughly and those I did have some errors.

Well, good luck with that. From what I've seen, so far so good.

But, rest assured, we'll all find a way to f*@k up your system, no matter how good it is.
