South Orange Ave, slightly east of Village Hall, near the multitude of beauty supply places, Neelam and Pirate Pizza.

Absolutely the best bagels around, better than most I get in NYC even. How sad that they offer virtually nothing to put on them, make sandwiches, etc, and have such an unappealing decor (if you can even go so far to call it that), because the bagels themselves are outstanding.

yea.... you can't call it a decor... it's actually very gross.. but you can't beat the bagels. I know people who freeze them and ship them to friends & family who have moved away.

The packages of frozen bagels are a great deal. They sell three bags (with six bagels in each bag)for $2. Each bag costs $1, but if you buy two they throw in a third for free.

We used to buy bagels from Sonny's until, one day, at least a couple of years ago, we discovered a bloodied bandaid inside a Sonny's bagel after taking a bite. We called the shop and the owner was nonplussed and barely apologetic. Since then we've patronized Super Duper Bagels in Livingston for fabulous handmade bagels. I hate to take business out of town but....

Arizona....until you discover a bloodied bandaid inside a Super Duper bagel. Then what?
At least a bloodied bandaid tells me that it may have fallen from a finger, a guarantee that the bagels are handmade.
I would've spit out the bandaid, return the bagel to Sonny's, give them hell, ask for a replacement, and enjoy it. This way I may relieve Sonny's baker, who was looking all over for his lost bandaid.

Az: What is wrong with Bagels Abroad for bagels instead of going to Livingston?
I do agree with Mary that it can happen anywhere and not sure I would stop going because of one incident.

Mary,
You are right in implying that this kind of incident can happen anywhere. I am not naive to the point of thinking that commercially prepared food is clean, safe, and healthy. However, we lost our appetite and thought others should have the info with which to make their decisions as you have done. I am too concerned about blood carried illnesses to eat more bagels from Sonny's. Perhaps I am just picky....

Arizona -- based on your description of the band-aid incident -- I may be buying Thomas' english muffins and forgoing the bagels for a while.

I had a similar food issue with apple pie at a diner a few years ago. Now I prefer cheesecake ;-)

mrosner:
I just prefer Super Duper bagels in Livingston to Bagels Abroad. Just think they taste better.

Better a bloody bandaid in a bagel than a bloody finger in your roast beef.

Arizona: They should taste a lot better to spend an extra 30 min to get a bagel.

Nice Comments about Sonny's.

Sorry this may have happened, but did anyone contact the health department?

Comments like this can run someone out of business. If this is unsubstantiated (i.e., not officially reported) the poster and anyone else who shared their own little story and mentioned names of the businesses opens themselves up to a nice libel suit.

mrosner: at least I drive thru Livingston on the way to work and usually buy them by the dozen.

tom v: at the time I did contact the owner who, as I previously mentioned, wasn't especially apologetic. Thanks, however, for watching out for my legal concerns.
