Dearest Arturo, Sbenois, Maplewood's Leading Industrialist, Entertainer and Currently Banned Poster Sitting on his Perch in the Resevation While Working on Word Parsing, is pleased to finally give you the postest with the mostest: a defense of the Boyden Two as well as a defense of Anon, Maplewood's Least Likely Racist. Please accept my apology in advance for not ever reading or commenting on the situation on Boyden Avenue. Sometimes Sbenois, especially these days, gets so bored by MOL that he just doesn't get involved anymore. But that's going to change. So, here for your edification and delight is the "word". The two fine ladies who set out to "protest" the bus situation on Boyden Avenue did indeed do this in a manner that all of their neighbors and indeed all of Maplewood should be proud of. NJT has not necessarily been an all together great neighbor and it appears that they have gradually ramped up their usage of Boyden Avenue to the point where their neighbors have had enough. I believe the work of the Boyden Two, the work you've done, and the collective displeasure that everyone involved on the side of Maplewoodians who care about this situation, is to be commended. I did watch the TC meeting when the two women spoke and I was especially impressed by how they took the time to thank the Police in our town for the dignified and gentle treatment that they received when they were placed under arrest. Clearly these two women were not "hardened" criminals, they were just a couple of frustrated Maplewoodians who had had enough. Bravo to them for their courage. I do hope that when it comes time for their sentencing, that the charges are dropped. Further, I believe that Mr. Seltzer's comments regarding "civil disobedience" were actually more positive towards the two women than anything else. Typically, when protesters want to make a strong point, they insist on being arrested. Being arrested is the greatest statement one can make about how much conviction they have for their cause. It is a badge of honor, not something to be ashamed of. You then went to great lengths to show that the two women were in fact NOT trying to get arrested because they weren't criminals. You needn't have bothered. We don't think they're criminals, we think they're great. Okay? Anon then comes along and gives a purely legal explanation of what "civil disobedience" is and adds a comments that a) cautions specific posters to remember that the two women should have the presumption of innocence (a good thing), b) "this case is annoying bus traffic on Boyden Avenue is not racial segregation on buses!". I believe his point here was that ultimately we are talking about an issue that is scale-wise, very small and that perhaps the use of the phrase "civil disobedience" to define the action of the Boyden Two was going a bit too far. My reading of his post was that not only was it not a racial slur, but it indeed was the opposite in that it honored Rosa Parks. So as far as I'm concerned here is the scorecard: Anon - not a racist by any stretch of anyone's imagination at all. If there is anyone in this town with a better imagination than Sbenois, I haven't found them. And Sbenois is stating without any doubt that Anon is NOT a racist. End of story. Trust me. Ajc - Still Maplewood's Leading Light. How is Libby? Give her a smooch for me. Hey Frederico, when the hell is Arturo going to be nominated for some kind of an award? Ken?Kathy? You two have been in office for like three weeks now and so far I've seen no improvement on the tax situation or an award for Arturo. While we're on the subject, if you recall at the LWV Debate, Mr. Ed May (father of MOL's newest liberal weenie) honored Sbenois with a public mention of "Crayola Blvd". So far, I haven't heard either of you say anything about my long held belief that Maplewood Avenue should be renamed "Sbenois Way". Kathy, I'm giving you a few weeks. Don't forget that I've got the goofy eyeball picture of you. Yeah, yeah, I KNOW you're reading this. The Boyden Two - honorable women who stood up for what they believe in. They are not "hardened" criminals. They are not even criminals because everyone is as Anon posted innocent until proven guilty. Hopefully, all charges will be dropped so they will never have an arrest on their records. However, if they are found guilty of a crime, they ought to put the info on a t-shirt and sell them on MOL. I'd buy one. They'd be heroes, Arturo. Sbenois: not banned. Not parsing. Still going after the evil-doers on the left who refuse to give an unbiased accounting of our President. Hey, Bush is not perfect. But he's not satan either. I just wish some of you would be more even-handed in your outlook on life. New Jersey Transit: they're pretty good in some respects and in others, they don't appear to be the best neighbors. We've got to continue to push them to respect their surroundings and I believe that the TC must continue to place pressure upon them to find some type of amicable solution for our fellow Maplewoodians. Dave Ross: I still love the King of All despite his amnesia about his stands on the Iraqi situation about a year ago. Iraq is a complex place. Pefection in planning is not something that we as humans can hope to achieve in a world where so many differing agendas and hatreds exist. Our President did what he believed was best for the future of our country. I support him for it.

Art has been on a roll on this subject. He worked Larry Seltzer over to the point he has left MOL, which is a crying shame as Larry has always been one of our most thoughful posters. Oh well, the shock jocks rule around here these days. I agree with Sbenois that MOL is getting really silly, except for the Home Improvement Section. Ps: Be warned, I hold the copywrite on the term "The Boyden Two" and will start enforcing it shortly. |

OK... I'm off it! Thanks Sbenois. I feel better now... There's nothing like a little acknowledgement of the facts to cool me off. I should be getting more mellow in my old age, but don't get your hopes up to high! Bob, I'm really sorry about the Larry thing. I embedded my initial comments to him by indicating I respected his opinions in the past, ie: (“Look, I respect you as a pretty levelheaded guy.”) I even called him up at home to apologize after he left MOL. Maybe he just needs a break for a while? I too hope he changes his mind. As for Anon, I'm glad I didn't come down to hard on him as well, I mean given he's now acknowledged he made a bad joke. I still believe he needs to go a little further. Hey, apologies are good for the soul... |
