I am looking for a place to get a good piece of Fish and some drinks. Unfortunately I hate going to a Steak house and ordering the fish. Does anyone know of something close by? I’m not opposed to Newark if there is good parking.

I was looking for somthing a little simpler then that. Like if Pal's Cabin had good specials or a good peice of salmon at The Gate. |

Bunny's offers Blackened or Broiled Fresh Salmon for your dinner selection. It comes with rice and a veggie. You won't be disappointed. |

I've had very nicely prepared fish at St. James's Gate - and I don't mean the fish & chips, but rather a piece of salmon. It's likely that the salmon was a special, but I think they have fish specials pretty regularly. Worth a try. They certainly have drinks, per your requirement. |

If I go to Bunnys I always order the Clam and Garlic Pizza. I can help myself it's like an addiction. I had the Salmon At the Gate. It was great. I was just looking for a little something else, see what's out there.

I don't know if you consider this simple, but we are big fans of Legal Sea Foods. They opened one in the Short Hills mall. |

Verjus is very strong on fish dishes, as is Cafe Arugula. Check 'em out. |

Actually, I'll put in a plug for Village Trattoria. Just the other day I ordered grilled swordfish with shrimp on a bed of arugula. It had light olive oil and garlic. FANTASTIC. Best swordfish I have had in ages. I don't normally get fish there, no special reason - I just stick to the usual Italian dishes. But I will definitely try it again! |

a second thumbs up (way up!) on the Village swordfish. their other fish specials aren't quite up to that standard, but are good also. it's BYO, so you'd have to plan the drinks in advance. I'd recommend a nice Sauvignon Blanc. |

I ended up at Martini’s last night and had Calamari, Honey Glazed Salmon over Vegetable Cuscus, and a Belvedere martini(2), my friend had the Potpie, Yooho-tini and cheese cake. I’ll keep everyone’s suggestions in mind in my quest for a “simple place” (I wish I could define that)

Try Julio's in West Orange. It's on Ashland Avenue, a block off of Main Street, near the Edison Museum. They have their own parking lot. Great calamari, lobster, salmon, shrimp, and two or more fish of the day. Memorable Italian food for those who don't like fish, too. It's not cheap, but the portions are large. Full service bar. If possible, try it on a weeknight.

Went to LaStrada in Millburn last weekend & had a great seafood dish (I believe it was Tillapia). I also continue to recommend "Lulu's Bistro" in Livingston (across from the Shop Rite) which has very good fish, as well. Of course, there is also a seafood restaurant "Coming Soon" in South Orange...but we've been hearing "Coming Soon" for over 6 months now. |

Another vote here for Legal Seafood, but please don't go. The wait there is long enough as it is! |

another vote for the seafood at Village Tratoria - they prepare some of the best salmon I've had (including trips to Seattle!) - I'm not sure how they do it for the price, which includes a salad and a side of pasta. |

While not inexpensive, Celebrated Food has some really creative fish dishes. I happen to LOVE the shrimp francese at Trattoria. Get your side of pasta with garlic and oil (and it's not oily either) instead of marinara and it's a delicious combo. |

Maplewoody, I think Alg and Straw have the chauffer drive them now. I also believe Straw has a fulltime bodyguard from Kroll Associates, which is nice because then Alg can wear her full length mink. |

No, unfortunately we haven't been back since "the incident". No, Straw doesn't have a driver (I do for work which makes people think I am "someone" in my mink --- but actually I am nobody). Straw doesn't need a bodyguard, he's a big, strong guy. Before the incident we did go to Verjus many many times (over 10) and I love the Salmon with the verjus reduction -- it's my favorite, that and the escargot. Maplewoody -- I don't want to get into it again because I really like Jane the owner, I do wish they would have some sort of security in the lot as other nice places in Newark have. Other than that, I love the food. We did go to Serenade with friends last weekend (in Chatham), the food was out of this world! The couple next to us raved about the Monkfish. |
