Mailboxes, Etc. on South Orange Avenue might be the easiest place to go. Somebody at Burgdorff might be able to help you. You can go to Fleet if you have an account with them. You can also have any New Jersey attorney sign the document for you, but you might run into a problem if you then send the document out-of-state, since not all states allow this practice. |

jab, Which States don't recognize New Jersey's law permitting attorneys-at-law to act as a notary public. Just wondering. TomR. |

LibraryLady at SOPL is a Notary. Not sure of her hours though (probably 9-5). Do a search of the Attic for "notary" and you'll find a list of area places. |

Mike, My work hours at 8;30-4:30pm (the library opens to the public at 9:00am). Stop by and I'll be glad to help, and, as always, there is no charge. The Library is located at 65 Scotland Road in South Orange (973-762-0230). It is necessary to show some idenitfication. Nancy- "Offical" Notary to S/MOL!!! NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it.

Tom, a problem can arise if somebody in another state is unaware that a NJ attorney may notarize a document and concludes that the document has not been notarized. This came up in my office a couple months back and somebody who was trying to close a deal by telephone, having previously sent documents to the other party, had to find the statutory authority for a NJ attorney to notarize a document and fax it to the other side. There would have been no problem if somebody who is a notary rather than an attorney had signed the document. |

On a related note does anyone know where I can have my fingerprints officially taken? I need it to apply to the IRS efile program. Thanks, |

The Maplewood police department will do that, I think (the fingerprinting, not the notary). They did it for my wife for her NJ teacher certification a few years ago. |

Don't go to the banks. They wouldn't/couldn't do it for me. I ended up at the Milburn Township Building and a nice woman in the office was able to notarize my documents. |

I had a document notorized at Fleet Bank just the other day. They ask if you have an account with them. If you say yes they do it for free. They did not ask for any proof. |
