My wife is taking me on a little vacation to the Caribbean for my birthday and all I said was that if you're coming too, then it's like you bought a really cool present for yourself and my gift is that you're letting me use it so it's not really a gift and that a really great gift would be sending me by myself.

Now she's all mad at me.

Marvin reminds me of a young, recently engaged friend who called me one day to explain to him why "I don't care, whatever you want" wasn't an appropriate response when he and his fiance were planning their wedding.

Marvin - an apology, chocolates and possibly some groveling are in order!!!

Marvin,
That was a really jerky thing to say. If I were your wife I would say, "oh yes, you are right, I did buy a really cool present for you, but since you want to be by yourself, you can be by yourself here, I think I will go alone and you can stay home! Happy Birthday honey, your resrvations are canceled!"

Mr. Gardens: I found the solution to your dilemma.

Time Machine for Sale.

Simply return to the time and space coordinates immediately prior to that conversation. You know what to do.

If it works, please let the rest of us know, because we all need to borrow a Tardis now and then.

I was sort of in a similar situation this year. My husband bought me a new computer and set it all up for me. Very thoughtful, right? The problem was, he put HIS name in as the administrator, so now everytime we turn it on, it says "HIS NAME's COMPUTER." I told him I wanted it to be changed to MY NAME, but he can't quite figure out how to do that. So, it was more of a family gift than my gift. I let him know how I felt, and anytime I'm on it and he wants to use it, I remind him just whose computer it is.

I think she should lighten up too! It take a lot more than for me to be mad at my spouse. In fact, I can't remember the last time I was truly mad at him. He's an ass -- I yell, he yells back, we both get over it and move on.

Wow Marvin.....you really know how to suck the life out of someone giving you a gift. If she took you to dinner for your Birthday would you give her the same response because she actually ate something while she was there with you? Would you tell her that going out to dinner for your birthday was really a gift for her because she ordered an entree???

I bet she was really excited about doing all that for you and you just crushed her with that response.

The old saying "it's the thought that counts" really does mean something....

This is a running joke between me & The Spouse. I've given her gifts that are "dinner for 2" or "trip for 2". She always teases me about getting to choose who she takes. Now, if she weren't teasing & wanted to go with someone else, we'd have a problem....
