A friend and I have a standing breakfast date on a Saturday morning each month -- where's a good place to go within 10-15 minutes of MSO -- a place where you can hang out with a good cup of coffee after breakfast? Also, I often have weekday breakfast meetings. Aside from the usual haunts (Mapleleaf, Blue Moon, Village Coffee) where do you suggest? |

For bkfst with a friend, I would suggest Suzette in Millburn, next to Starbucks. The food is a nice alternative to the typical eggs or pancakes, they have a nice breakfast crepe, good fresh fruit, juices, etc. The dining area is spacious. Not sure if it gets really crowded on Saturday mornings, but it's worth a shot. |

The Madison Hotel has a great brunch. Not sure if they do it on Saturdays. It's in Convent Station adjacent to the train station |

I haven't been there in a long time, but I used to like to go to TGI Friday's for brunch on Sunday. I realize that you mentioned every day except for Sunday, but from what I remember, they had good food. I don't care for their food on the normal menu, just Sunday brunch.

Joe's Diner in Irvington, just off Springfield. They make a great waffle with fresh fruit and real whipped cream. |

Vermont Pancake House (on Columbia Tpk in Florham Park) or The Original Pancake House down Route 10 in Whippany are both pretty good. |

Mayhewdrive, are you talking about great pancakes, or just a good place for breakfast? |

ajc, I'm not a big pancake person (sacrilege....I know), so I can't really say. Both places have good eggs & omelets though. |

These are great suggestions, thanks. I like the Vermont Pancake House -- great eggs florentine. Its my favorite when we skip out of Sunday morning observances -- just say a different type of spiritual practice! Maybe we'll try that this Saturday. Joe's in Irvington? You said its off of Springfield - can you see it from Springfield? That sounds good too. Keep the suggestions coming!

Corned beef hash and eggs (or oatmeal, pancakes, ham and eggs...) at the Summit Diner!! They make their own corned beef hash and the ham is sliced by hand from a whole ham! Downsides: no real butter, only glorbs of margarine and terrible syrup packets--bring your own maple syrup. The corned beef hash is really wonderful--please do try it. Enjoy! David Buckley |

As you're driving towards Newark, Joe's is on your right. It's not technically on Springfield, it's on that little street that runs parallel. It's at the end of the street that the Irvington police station and public library are on. |

The Sage Diner on Springfield has been (moderately) refurbished, so it's a bit more pleasing to the eye. Their breakfast is quite good. The coffee is excellent, their omlettes and pancakes are very good, and the portions are quite large. They will never rush you out the door. It is kid friendly, and IMHO better than something like the Mapleleaf. If you want to travel a bit further, the Park West Diner on Rt 46, just west of the GSP is good too, but since it's a mad house there, I have seen them ask stragglers to vacate their table. Seriously, give Sage Diner a shot. |

Maybe it was a bad day at the Sage, but we were not thrilled--the coffee was bad; service terrible. And it was very smoky inside--cigarets, I mean. The omelettes were okay (except the waitress got the orders wrong), tho. |
