For some reason, this year's cold snap leaves me sitting at home after work or on weekends with a constant state of the munchies. I'm afraid to go to the gym because when I come home I'm even more ravenous. My friends think I'm nuts but it's really getting to me, since I'm small 5 - 10 lbs make a big difference to me. And every time I try to stop, it just gets worse. I need a trip to the Caribbean where I can maintain a satisfactory level of alcohol content in my blood to curb the appetite - but I don't have enough vacation time yet. I feel trapped! Anyone else going through this?

Hmmmm...I go through this, and it has worsened after age 45. Hormones, and their coming and going, have a lot to answer for! I haven't yet done what I need to do, which is start doing exercise in the a.m., before work. When I did that, it (1) stopped the winter blues, (2) got the old metabolic engine working better, (3) dropped weight. I also find that if I eat way more protein in the a.m. and lunch (rather than carbohydrates), it hangs in longer and curbs appetite.

But, all in all, it's a DRAG!!! Too, if I get all engrossed in sewing, or painting, or cleaning or something, I'm less hungry, less blue, etc.

I'm far, far from a paragon. And I, too, like wine. I sympathize....

Sounds like you're in a rut woman. Maybe if you find yourself a nice younger man, one who's over 18 and will chase you around every night until 3 or 4 in the morning.

There's nothing like some red wine, soft music, hot lips, and a water bed...

Thanks. I am not a morning person (and I cannot cure this), so working out in the am is not an option, if I work out too late in the pm I can't sleep. I just loaded up on watercolor supplies so I'll begin painting, but the energy I use up to do artwork leaves me famished in the winter. Anyway, I am cooking a huge turkey dinner tonight with all the fattening fixings, so I guess I'll worry about it tomorrow. Maybe take those caffeine or grapefruit pills or something.
Cheers.

AJC!!!!
That snow rut is still there!
It looks like you've joined the ranks of using that awful little font, which I am not NEARLY sophisticated enough to use.
Also, being chased by the younger man ALSO makes me hungry. Everything makes me hungry right now! And no, I am not in the family way. I hope.
:-)

Mem: Don't worry about it. Our ancestors didn't have central heating, remember. We all have that atavistic urge to eat a lot when it's this cold. it's freakin' frigid out! You're fine. Enjoy.

When spring comes, and we can all take a walk without fearing a slip and a hip displacement, the weight will come off naturally. At least, that's what I tell myself.

could be worse...

quote:

McDonald's diet makes you sick as hell
Within a few days of beginning his drive-through diet, Spurlock, 33, was vomiting out the window of his car, and doctors who examined him were shocked at how rapidly Spurlock's entire body deteriorated.

"It was really crazy - my body basically fell apart over the course of 30 days," Spurlock told The Post.

His liver became toxic, his cholesterol shot up from a low 165 to 230, his libido flagged and he suffered headaches and depression.

ajc - true, but if you catch them at just the right time, you can train them really well!

LOL BP! If it's anything like training young women, you no sooner get them trained and before you know it they're feathering another nest.

Hey, go for it... Young is fun, and if you don't mind the sting, go for the fling.

Here's the good news for you gals. Over the years I've found most real men go for older women who have been around the block a few times. They're too old to swell, and they're greatful as hell.
