I know it's is cold and there is ice and snow on the ground but I love the winter sky. Especially the sunrise and sunset.

You bet, Barbara!

By chance did you catch Venus and the moon at around 6 pm? Breathtaking!

There's lots that I hate about winter. But what I love about winter ... let's see.
I especially love that smell in the air when snow is on the way.
I love the way the snow crunches under your feet when it is very cold.
I love it when all the neighbors are out shoveling the snow together, helping each other and schmoozing and enjoying seeing the kids playing together.
I love watching the birds at the feeder.
I love the beauty of the snow highlighting the black tree branches.
I love seeing the kids skating on the flooded field in Memorial Park.

As long as I don't have to drive in it, I love the snow; the way it makes the trees all lacy and makes the world look clean for a little while.

bpaandco,
Are you originally from Maplewood? How did you end up in Hawaii?
You are so lucky! Especially right now.

mem-yes, I grew up in South Orange on Vose Avenue, went away, moved back in '96 to be with my dad who lived in Maplewood at the time, then moved here in '02. I went to Montrose Elementary School, SOJH, and graduated Columbia in 1972. I've been keeping tabs on the weather in NJ, and am certainly glad to be here this winter! I do miss seeing the snow, but I don't miss being cold.

You might know my older brother and sister from CHS. But how did you end up in Hawaii if you don't mind my asking?

Don't mind a bit. My daughter and her husband live here on Kauai. When my dad died, and then my brother, there was not much keeping me in NJ. Hawaii sounded pretty good to me. My name in High School was Nancy Hubley. I was the last of four kids to go through CHS. Actually, my dad graduated CHS in '36! What are your sibling's names?

My brother and sister are the oldest of eight...my sister graduated in '72 and my brother in '73. I'll privateline you their names.
Again, how lucky you are to be in Hawaii, I always wanted to vacation there but I wanted to get Europe and the Caribbean out of the way first.

Your brother is the best. I was happy to see him the other night and to know he is getting well from his middle ear ailment.

ok.. enough drifting... what I love about winter is that moment before anyone has walked on the snow, before the snow blowers rev up, before the shoveling begins, that moment of complete and utter silence as the dawn breaks.

During heavy snowstorms I'm always impressed by how something so intense can be so incredibly quiet.

Wellington? I have a friend who moved there in June. Since their school year is a half year off the northern hemisphere, her kids had to go back a year, and they missed their summer vacation. She likes it there, though.

I love the end of winter when I start planning my garden. As corny as it sounds, it is thrilling for me.
