I remember last year there was a thread about a Swim Club, but I can't find it with keyword search. Probably dreaming, I know, but my goal is to find a club with a pool and kids' activities on premises (and SHADE!). When I was a kid I had lots of friends whose families went to places like this, but I think they were probably farther South in NJ. Ideally I'd go with my kids and have them participate in crafts, games, swimming, whatever, but I'd like it to be a comfortable enough place that we could keep stuff there (like a cabana) and hang out, not just go for an hour and leave because we're not into the sun and there's nothing else to do. Any suggestions? |

Shh- You're typically only going to find cabanas at beach clubs which may also have a pool. For all the stuff you're looking for it sounds like you need a beach club. |

You can try Brook Hill in Watchung. I can't comment on how it currently is since I haven't been a member there since the mid 80s. http://brook-hill.org/

Art- The Community Pool is fine, just not for me. I'm looking more for a place where my family can spend the day and do other things besides swim. Kevin- I'll look up info for Brook Hill. Thanks. |

Here are some past threads on this topic. /discus/messages/3135/24472.html /discus/messages/10210/24233.html /discus/messages/3127/24232.html For summer, at the Maplewood Community pool, I am always able to find a seat under one of the canopies on the side of the pool away from Boyden Avenue which provides shade and a good view of the training and/or large pools. There is also a canopy plus a couple of shade trees near the wading pool there. To me, the main drawback of the community pool is the short season. |

SAC, I have 3 kids and each will be in a different pool. I don't feel comfortable being too far from any of them, so for the next few years I can't see myself going there. It would be worth the extra money for me to enjoy spending time somplace, rather than dreading the time there. My husband mentioned the Maplewood Country Club Pool. Does anyone know if they accept Pool Only members anymore? |

Yes, I can imagine that is a bit daunting. I didn't mean to question your motives at all. I was mainly responding to the comment about SHADE more than anything else. At any rate - Good luck in your search. I hope you find a good solution! (I remember what a relief it was about a year ago when my younger child reached the stage where I could sit and watch from the side of the big pool and not have to be right there with her ... It was a long time coming, and I only have two kids, not three.) |

I know that the Maplewood Country Club had pool only memberships a few years ago. Neighbors of ours (who have since moved away) used to belong. |

I've seen signs for a swim club on my way to Westfield on whatever that road is that Meisel turns into (Springfield?) past the big plant nursery on the same side I think. Sorry for the vagueness. |
