Can anyone recommend a knee surgeon within 30 miles? Using the MOL search, I found the name Kim Sloan but cannot find any contact information on him/her. I have visited others and have no confidence in those docs so far.

If the surgeon is under 50 and has experience in sports-related injuries, that would be ideal.

Thanks!

Richard Rosa replaced both of my knees two years ago. He has a wonderful reputation. He's probably 50ish but looks 18. He's located at 1500 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange. Tel. no. 973-669-5600. The doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery in N.Y. are superb also.

I have an appointment with HSS, but the earliest I can get in there is May!

Rosa is in my PPO--would you recommend him for a smaller knee surgery (torn meniscus)?

Thank you!

John Hurley 973-538-2334 at 160 Hanover Ave. in Morristown. He's with Tri-County Sports and Orthopedics...was an NFL team surgeon too. Does only knees and shoulders. Good website at www.tri-countyortho.com. Especially liked that he had faith in my motivation/ability to continue sports, even tho I am no spring chicken. What kind of knee surgery do you need?

Dr. Hurley is in my PPO as well. I have a torn meniscus damaged several years ago.

Would you recommend him for arthroscopic surgery like this?

Thanks!

Rosa and Hurley both have superb reputations. Yes, I would recommend Rosa for smaller knee surgery. I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. I've heard wonderful things about Hurley also.

Yes, I'd recommend Hurley...my arthroscopic surgery went very well. I think he is top-notch. All the medical staff he works with (other drs included) were professional and kind. The administrative staff were a little assembly-line for me, but really, most were fine. They just really know what they're doing there. Surgery was outpatient, across the street from Morristown Memorial. That place was also very good.

BTW, one other recommendation is Dr. Howard Blank in Millburn. He did not do my kind of surgery, so that's why I went to Hurley, but he does do other kinds of knee surgery so he might do meniscus work (you could even ask over the phone). He saw me the day of my injury, correctly diagnosed it, and helped me with all kinds of questions throughout the whole process.

Good luck where ever you go.

I can not tell you the way I busted up my leg. It would make you vomit. St. Barn. Emg. could not help me.

They called in the expert and drugged me until he could arrive.

That was in '99. I just saw him last week as a follow-up.

I'm a bit ticked in that he told me that I could dance again. Ok, I could not dance before and I can not dance now. What good was he other than walking and stuff??

Call Dr. Schenk at 973 226-3738.

Thank you all! Shenk was also recommended to me but he's not in my plan.

I appreciate all the fast responses.
