We are going to be celebrating our 25th anniversary. Recommendation for very special restaurant for the occasion are appreciated. North NJ is preferred. BYOB would also be preferable since we have a couple of chateau margaux bottles for the occasion.

Congratulations. The best place to find food that's matched to your wine (geographically, that is) is probably Jocelyn's in Maplewood.

Or check out Fascino in Montclair.

Both will require reservations well in advance.

Congratulations! I agree with Dave, Jocelyn's is far and away the best BYOB. Make your reservations ASAP!

I would recommend Jocelyn's as well but what about catering a very elegant, romantic dinner for two at home?

We went to Serenade in Chatham with another couple recently and it was fabulous. Expensive but the service was perfect, food was out of this world and it has nice bar. The following is from Zagat.com
SERENÄDE
Chatham
6 Roosevelt Ave. (Main St.) Chatham, NJ, 07928 (973) 701-0303
An “ode” to “casual elegance”, this Chatham spot is one of “the top special-occasion restaurants in the state” thanks to chef-owner James Laird’s “flawless”, “spectacular” New French cuisine (including “perfect” “tasting menus matched with unusual wines”), “professional, knowledgeable, personable” service and “romantic”, “elegant” decor; even though a “meal costs more like a symphony than a song”, pros promise a “satisfied glow” after an “ideal evening.”

another one people rave about is:
SCALINI FEDELI
Chatham
63 Main St. (Parrot Mill Rd.) Chatham, NJ, 07928 (973) 701-9200
A “classic in all senses of the word”, this “sublime” Chatham Northern Italian (voted Most Popular in this Survey) represents “what dining out’s all about” with “exquisite, masterful creations” served in the “splendor” of an “elegant”, “comfortable” space by an “attentive” staff; in fact, most would “beg, borrow or steal” for a “fantasy evening” at this “jewel” - if they can “get a reservation.”

I concur re: Sernade. Went there a couple of weeks ago and the meal was excellent. However, it's not BYOB (the wine list was actually very good), but many places will allow you to bring your own wine and charge you a "corking fee". Suggest you call first.

You can't go wrong with the two Chatham restaurants, but let me add The Dining Room in the Short Hills Hilton to the list. "Romantic" with a capital R. The food, decor and service are unsurpassed, IMHO.

Happy 25th!

Congratulations!

More restaurants that are great but farther away and not BYO...
Stage House Inn in Scotch Plains
Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station

Scalini Fedeli is our hands-down favorite...incredibly romantic.

Having said that, for MY 25th I'm going to insist on dinner in Paris.

Congratulations on reaching this incredible milestone. And may I add, you cute couple, you!!
