Anyone know a decent luthier who fixes guitars anywhere around here ?. There used to be a guy in South Orange but he's gone. My sons taking a real interest in the guitar and the Gibson LG15 I gave him is rattling like crazy. It needs a new bridge/saddle and a few cracks repaired. For the money I'll spend to repair it, I know I can get him a brnd new Made in Korea guitar but I'd rather keep the Gibson, in the family.

I know I can always go to Mandolin Bros. in S.I. but that place is dangerous.

A beat up Gibson will outplay a new Korean knockoff any day! You can try Dave's Sound Repair, 622 Rt 10 West, Whippany 973/386-5840. Ask for Bill, he works on the guitars. These guys have always done well by my friends and I.

There used to be a bunch of them on 48th street in NYC, right across from Manny's. If you commute into the city for work, you may want to drop the guitar off at one of these places.

Also, out on Route 22 West, I used to see a little shop that sold hundred of used guitars. Perhaps they repair guitars over there?

There's a music store in Summit that I believe does repairs - I've only been there for sheet music, but you might want to see if they provide the service or can refer you to someone who does. I believe the name is "Music World" or "World of Music" and it's located in the center of Summit, just off Springfield Avenue within walking distance of the train station.

It's a trek, but it's the only place we would take our own instruments - Mandolin Brothers - Staten Island. It's worth the trip just to visit - BTW - George Harrison used to take his guitars there for repair.

I've never used Dave's but many of my friends have over the years, and I've only heard good things.

The reason I don't want to go to Mandolin Bros, is every time I'm there my wallet screams, "SPEND MONEY". Harrison used to go there to look for rare ukealales. McCartney was the one who sent his bass (his original Hofner) over to be worked on. He also sent his guitar tech over with the bass, to watch over the pricelss instrument.

If I buy another instrument, my wife's gonna call Marvin Mitchelson. Looks like I'll have to try this Dave guy.
