I accidently copied over a file (on a PC)when saving another file. Not to worry though - since I do regular backups. I opened my back up file to make sure I had it -- and there it was. When I went to copy it onto my PC I got a message that it couldn't read from the disk, that the disk was unformatted. Help! I know my data is on this disk. How do I get it?

Search the web under data recovery. I had this happen to a cd that i had stored the first 4 months of my daughter's life in photos. I forgot the name - but I sent it off and one week and $125 later - i had all the photos back. |

Barbra: If you use software to back up your drive you should also use the software to "Restore" the file. It sounds like the compter can't "see" inside of the back up drive. |

What format was the file in? I had a problem last month with an ole object in a Wp file. The Wp text remained in my back up file but in order to read the ole object, I had to use the original ole file. When the ole packet became corrupted, I lost both the original and the back up copy. Recovery soft ware didn't work in this instance. |

Hi thanks. I've UPS'd my disk off to a recovery service. Should hear tomorrow - wish me luck! Joan, its an Access database. Brett, I didn't use backup software - simply copied the file to a floppy at the end of each month. I know you're supposed to alternate disks when you do regular backups, and now I understand why! (I hate learning lessons like this!) |
