I'm posting on behalf of a newly formed Charity, the Friends of David Coble fund. David Coble is a wonderful four and a half year old boy from Maplewood who is suffering from an extremely rare, malignant brain tumor. He is also my son's best friend. His illness has left his family struggling not only emotionally, but financially. Unreimbursed medical expenses (don't get me started about insurance companies) and his mother's inability to work while he is in treatment have put them in a real bind. They need your support. A donation to the Friends of David Coble Fund will help his family pay for his medical and other related expenses during this difficult time. Keep your eyes open for posters and flyers around town (printed compliments of Deanne an NetNomads) and information about a benefit concert for kids we hope to announce soon. For more information please go to our website www.davidcoblefund.org or email us at Davidcoblefund@comcast.net. We would also love to hear from anyone who would like to donate time or services (web-design, printing, helping out with events, etc.). Thanks Donations can be sent to: The Friends of David Coble Fund, PO Box 191, Maplewood, NJ 07040 Information filed with the Attorney General concerning this charitable solicitation may be obtained from the Attorney General of the State of New Jersey by calling (973) 504-6215. Registration does not imply endorsement. Because The Friends of David Coble Fund is established for the benefit of a single individual, contributions are not tax deductible |

What a great community! Have you thought about opening a paypal account for contributions online. It's very easy and would make it easier (and more likely) for us to contribute. I know this is lazy of me, but I want what's best for this cause, and I feel it may help. I'm sure many here find it hard to take the extra five minutes to find an envelope and a stamp.

It sounds like a great idea. I will look into it. Do they charge you anything? |

If you set it up as a business account, paypal charges you for any payments you receive. If you accept credit cards, you will be classified as a business, but many paypal users can simply transfer from their bank rather than using a credit card. I believe that they do not charge for individual accounts, but then you (or the Cobles) would just be receiving money into a personal bank account. I don't know if there are any laws or regulations that prohibit a charitable organization from accepting donations that way (i.e., segregation of funds, etc). |

Hey AShear.. there will be a donation bucket at the fundraiser on the 13th no? What about an auction of cool stuff. Lord knows there are enough well placed folks in maplewood to generate an interesting collection of things to bid on? I know time is tight, but I would be glad to help work on that. Let me know Alls Well That Ends Well. Playing through March 7. info at http://www.hometown.aol.com/theatr1010/

We are planning an auction for the Y's spring fling, which, as mentioned in the article, will be a fundraiser for the coble fund. We already have lots of great stuff including some very cool sports memorabilia and gift certificates for some great NYC restaraunts. Once we have the details finalized I'll post info here and on the funds website, www.davidcoblefund.org. If you would like to donate something auctionable you can send me a private line or email davidcoblefund@comcast.net. Thanks again to everyone for the terrific support. |
