We have a bathroom project that has changed from a smallish job into a much bigger job, and as a result we need to buy a new bathroom mirror & medicine chest.

We're having trouble finding something that we like, and the things that are kinda close to what we like have given us a bad case of sticker shock.

Does anybody have suggestions for places to look for bathroom mirrors & medicine chests, pref. at a reasonable cost? We are looking for something with dark wood trim, to blend in with a bathroom that is sort of Victorian in style. (or that's where we want to end up.)

We still can't find much that we like, but we may have settled on a medicine cabinet at least.

Question, which may be kind of dumb: Is it possible to take our existing very large, frameless mirror, have it cut it to size, and have somebody build a frame to order for it? I have no idea how we'd transport the mirror to a glass cutter, but I'm putting logistics aside for a moment.

If so, what kind of person would make the frame? A carpenter? A frame shop? Please forgive my cluelessness on this.

I imagine a mirror can be recut, but why bother? Mirrors are relatively inexpensive. A frame shop could frame a mirror for you quite easily. This assumes that you are going to hang it on the wall and not use it as a door for a cabinet.

In our hall bath we have a mirror instead of a medicine cabinet for space reasons (don't ask). We have a closet next to the vanity so storage isn't an issue. Before we updated the bath we had a cabinet that was virtually empty.

Have you tried Restoration Hardware (Mall at Short Hills, catalog and online)?
They have some nice period-style mirrored medicine cabinets. This one might work.

Thank you jem!!! I looked at Resto and only saw white ones. I knew I'd seen darker ones there a few years back though. I'll pass this on to the Man of the House for his opinion.

Also thanks bobk - another avenue to explore. With a medicine chest from Resto and a custom-made mirror, we should be in business pretty soon. (we want both, as you can jimmy the medicine chest mirror to see the side of your head while drying hair ... something I MUST have! :-)
