We have inherited an old KitchenAid dishwasher from the previous owners, BUT the door to hold the detergent won't stay shut.

Who would you recommend we could ask to come out to fix it?
Thanks

The dispenser probably just screws on. Take it off and go to the appliance parts store on SA in Irvington for a replacement and save yourself a couple of hundred bucks.

first -- go to repairclinic.com -- absolutely great appliance info. they list 3 possible problems for what you describe.

then, go to their parts finder-- and you will get diagrams, pictures, etc. its very intuitive. basically, measure the part, look to see if its plastic only, metal only, or both, and if its electrical.

that said -- i needed a part a few weeks ago -- and repairclinic did not have it in stock. neither did the store on Springfield Ave in Irvington (5 days -- and it was for my broken fridge!).

SO -- I found the part in stock at partselect.com. Ordered it Monday, had it at my house via overnight express by 10 am on Tuesday.

So -- I can highly recommend partselect.com.

Good luck! (BTW -- Kitchenaid "detergent cup assemblies" are between $43 - $127!)

Pete

As for any old energy wasting appliance, before you spend $100 on fixing it, look into the price for a new energy efficient(Energy Star Rated) appliance.
