Do you really mean replaced, as in new wood? Or do you mean overlaid with vinyl? Far too many people have done the latter. (Of course from my perspective, one is far too many.)

I do know people who have had sizable sections of shingles replaced.

I think he means aluminum siding replaced. I think it can be taken off but maybe it would be better to paint it. I have seen that done.
