Just thought I'd post this in case some of you out there are not getting mail. For the last 2-3 days I haven't received any mail. Finally we called the post office, our carrier got on the phone and told us our steps are too icy.

We do have ice - but the steps weren't slippery, I've been dosing it with ice melt.

I chipped the ice off now, so the mail should get though. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up.

It's been a bad year for ice - our mailman tosses the mail onto our porch if he deems the steps too hazardous to get to the mailbox. This has resulted in a couple of soggy magazines, but it's ok.. wouldn't want him to get hurt.

As a mailman I can tell you that the PO pounds it into our heads DAILY about icy steps. It is a judgement call on our part. They just cover their asses. If we fall, the first question they ask is "Are you wearing Govt issued shoes?" If not they dont want to know you.

Its a good idea to keep your steps free of ice if you can. Ditto keeping the path to and from your garbage cans clean on pick-up days if you want Waste Management to collect your trash.
