Who do you use for "Pet Emergencies" if something happens when your vet doesn't have office hours? Recommendations?

There is an emergency vet hospital in Caldwell but we usually schlep the beast in question into the city to the Animal Medical Center over on the east side.

We've used the one in Caldwell - kind caring people - even at 2 in the morning!

We used the one in Caldwell too. They're expensive, but provided good care.

For the sake of completeness, here is the info:

Animal Emergency & Referral Center
647 Bloomfield Ave
West Caldwell, NJ 07006
973-226-3282

They are expensive, but it's nice that they're there 24 hours every day. We used them once.

Normally, our animals see Dr. Malampati in Maplewood.

I've used them, too, and been satisfied, but I believe they asked me if the pet had been seen by my own vet within 30 days prior to taking it to them - they didn't want to be the first resort for a sick animal. (This was an animal in respiratory distress at the time)

Perhaps it is different if it is a true emergency - broken bones, bleeding, that sort of thing.
