Please let me know if you have any recommendations for lighting fixture stores. We are looking for new lighting fixtures for the kitchen and the bathrooms. We looked at Expo and just didn't see anything we liked. Thanks. |

There is a big lighting center on Morris Ave in Union (not far from Jaeger Lumber) and there is another on Route 10 (Capitol Lighting, I believe, across the street from the strip mall that houses Best Buy). Don't be put off by all of the bigger-than-my-house chandeliers in the windows. They both have a wide selection of styles. |

Rejuvenation, which sells by catalog and online has great period lighting fixtures. We were very happy with the outdoor lighting fixtures that we ordered from them for our previous house. Capitol Lighting on Route 10 is also a pretty good source, but you have to look through a whole lot of stuff that makes you wonder who buys it. |

Expo has manufacturer's catalogs at their lighting desk .... if you have the patience for looking through them, the selection is much larger than what they have in the showroom. Also there are 2 lighting stores on Morris Ave in Union: Union Lighting (on the right as you drive east) Feltzenberg Bros (on the left a little further down) also on the web: lampsontheweb.com (prices a bit high, huge selection) lightinguniverse.com (prices more reasonable) |

You can also check out places like Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn for a small selection of choices. |

Does anyone have a ballpark figure of what it would cost to install a lighting fixture/fan combination |

You can see about a million lighting fixtures in store after store on the Bowery in Manhattan. |

Marc - If you're talking ceiling fan/light fixture -- be sure you have the right support btwn the joists to hold the weight of the fan. If you're talking about a bathroom fan/light vent thingy ... then be sure you have a place to vent the air. If you're talking about a fan with spot lights on the end of each blade, forget it and buy a disco ball. Oh, the price ... it depends on how much of what you need is already in place. Little work: replace a old fan/light w/a new one: handyman could do it in about 15 minutes -- maybe $40; or get a friend, save the $$ and try it yourself. Lotsa work: install new fixture, new switch, connect fixture to switch, connect wiring to breaker .... Hmmmm could be close to $300.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've started to look at the website and have to admit that I am overwhelmed. I will visit the stores tomorrow. |

O'Lampia in the Bowery (NYC) is our favorite. We keep going back and all our friends an family have purchased there. They can customize any of their designs. http://www.olampia.com/catalogue/index.html |

Believe it or not, we got EXPO to help us with lighting fixtures and they were MUCH cheaper than lighting stores. Ask for Jake on the weekends. He has helped us 4 or 5 times now. We got some real funky, high end, retro stuff from a lighting manufacturer in Highland Park through their catalog at EXPO and nothing was over $200. good luck m |
