Our unfinished basement gets pretty wet (in 2 of the 3 rooms) when we get these big rains. We are beginning to worry about the foundation. We've had a few different people over (from landscapers to handymen) and each seem to have a different opinion- repave and regrade the driveway, the yard, change gutter flow, french drains, etc... Anyone have a recommendation for someone who could figure out where the water is REALLY coming from? We realize we have to do something, but don't want to throw money away unnecessarily.

If you can search the archives, there are lots of discussions on this topic. Our personal experience - Midlantic Waterproofing came and gave us a 30K estimate to dig up our yard, etc etc. Gregory Waterproofing (Gary Gregory, from Clark, NJ) came and did french drains for about 2K. Never had water inside since. Neighbor dug a trench, put in pipes, regraded, etc - still gets water.

Water still trickles in, but now its controlled and goes right to the sump pump and out of the house. Floors are dry.

Thanks. I do have Gary (Gregory Waterproofing) coming out for an estimate. My concern is that French drains may not be the solution. We also have a basement door that is slanted and allows water in (a river on a day like today). Would Gary let us know if he didn't think FD's were the answer to our problem?
