Any recommendations on someone to replace the back door in basement that leads to steps up to yard? Ours is cracking/rotted/etc and this is leading to water leaking into our basement. any advice appreciated.

Hi
Are you referring to a cellar door? Is it almost on the ground?
If so, we had a similar problem. Ours was made of wood.
We opted for a Bilco door, (www.bilco.com). Ours is a residential one, not some of the industrial ones shown.
We are very happy with the door; it was custom fit to the house and is solid and sealed We used Miele Iron Works off of RT. 22. He did an OK job and his cement guy leveled the ground before installation...BUT he took twice as long as he quoted to finish, it cost a few hundred dollars extra and he very rarely showed up when he said he would. We resorted to calling him constantly and finally bitched constantly but it didn't speed up the process. From the time he removed our old door (and covered it with plastic and wood and put in the new one, almost TWO months...crazy…You’d think he would have waited to remove the old one until right before the new one came. It was such a hazard with my toddler in the yard.)
However, the door is great. I've heard there is a bilco door place that advertises regularly in one of the NY papers...maybe someone knows? I would do it, just use someone who wants to work. By the by, they typically come primed in a redish color ready for paint.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Actually, it's not a cellar door but a regular door w/ a deadbolt that opens up onto the bottom of the stairs that lead up to our backyard. We never use this door but are getting leaking from it.
