Need quickly someone to make level a small section of concrete on our front walk. Insurance requirement. Who do you recommend? Cannot do it ourselves in available time. Thanks for any recommendations.

A few years ago we got a letter from our insurer in NOvember, telling us to replace the roof within thirty days or the insurance would be cancelled.

I called our agent and said it made more sense to wait until the Spring. That was fine with the insurer.

Depending upon your insurer and the immediacy of the problem, you may be able to get the time you need just for the asking.

TomR.

We have the same problem (though our insurer hasn't caught up with us yet). Pintona had done some work for us and I asked them late this fall about fixing the sidewalk. They do this, but the guy I spoke with said it's best to wait until the spring when the ground is thawed.

Concrete shouldn't be done when the temperature is below, from memory, around 50 degrees. On the bright side winter should be over in a couple of months.

Pintona has done sidewalk work for us also. They mix on site, so you don't have the cost of a redimix truck for a small job such as this.

We're kinda screwed on the time as we'd been alerted to this in July and managed to overlook. Now desperate or will be "Non-Renewed." Does Pintona deal with small jobs?

I'm tellin' ya, the needs are pretty subtle. More like repair. We're in a place where I just want to throw money at this to satisfy the insurer -- even if it doesn't last. Thoughts?

What makes me crazy is that I see downright heaving sidewalks elsewhere in Maplewood, especially in more expensive areas, and I'm getting nailed for nonsense...But, needs must when the devil drives...

Cynical -- yes, Pintona does small jobs. They are doing our sidewalk this spring and have done many small jobs for us.

Honestly, you sound pretty bitter about the "expensive area". Comments like that are just plain silly. What does you insurance company's requirements have to do with someone else's sidewalk?

I'm just in a place. Overwhelmed by expenses of living her and truly suprised on the concrete thing. I'm telling you, what little is wrong is hard to come to grips with compared to other sidewalks. It's really more a gripe at insurance. I get the feeling they never check back once you've satisfied the initial requirement. Just the straw that broke and all that...

Cynicalgirl,

Try "Diaz and Sons" in West Orange. They replaced our side and front walk, but they also do small jobs. Their work was clean, neat, and reasonably priced.

How 'bout switching insurance companies? We have Allstate. Our sidewalks were terrible for many years till we accumulated the money to fix them. Allstate never checked.

You're in good hands with Allstate.
