My wife and are (early 30s) are looking to relocate to Essex Cty from the midwest. We are looking for a young, active Catholic church in the area. Any suggestions?

If you'll be near Maplewood/Sout Orange, try Immaculate Heart of Mary. I don't know whether it would fit your definition of "young", but there are lots of age groups in attendance from newborns to people in their 90s.

IHM is a small but very vibrant parish. I love IMH more than any other parish I've belonged to. It is "homey" and has a very welcoming feel.

Today, the 50th anniversary celebration began with a beautiful Mass, and it was AMAZING!!! Hats off to the organizers! It started during the processional with a procession of the flags of all the nationalities represented at IHM. (or at least those who filled out a card to have their home country represented.) I am told there were 27. And in almost all cases this doesn't mean that people were descended from somebody from that country, it means that they are an immigrant from that country. Here are the flags I remember:

Ireland
Canada
UK
France
Poland
Germany
Italy
Netherlands
Puerto Rico
Trinidad & Tobago
Jamaica
Guyana
Haiti
Ghana
Nigeria
Phillipines
U.S., of course

That's all I can remember, but there were a lot more. It's a great parish, please check it out!

Try Our Lady of Sorrows, we are in our mid 30s with two kids, we love it. It has a pre-K through 8th grade school. Here is the web site for the school, I think there is a link for the parish. www.ourladyofsorrowsschool.org

My neighbor and her husband are young, newly married, and in their early 30's (she's from the miwest too - MN) -- they go to St. Rose of Lima in Millburn.
