Who are you buying for? Budget? Do you have any creative talents? Framing a photo or drawing is always nice. I bought some nice frames at Kmart (Martha Stewart Collection) recently. If you are looking for a gift for an older person maybe you could make them a photo album or organize their pictures in a photo box. |

That's a good idea, but I do that already since we live together. |

Breakfast in bed is always kind of cool; you just have to add the really hard to get or special ingredient (I like crab on an English muffin topped with cheese). It’s also impressive to go all the way with one of those little trays and silver milk/sugar bowl jams jellies. Add a flower, goofy but nice. If you don’t have the stuff borrow it from someone. It shows you went through some trouble.

An account on MOL: it's free! Then you can ask him online next year and get a more precise answer. |

The Nifty Needleworkers has inspired me. This year I stitched a bookmark with a valentine theme for my son and I am now working on a hanging valentine card for my spouse. Cost in materials under $1 for both projects combined. Time spent minimal since I can work on these projects on the train or while windows are loading (I have dial up). Any hand made gift is usually appreciated. |

How about an "it's all about you" day? Start with his favorite breakfast & serve in bed. Let him do whatever he wants all day, whether it's sit around in his underwear watching T.V. or accompanying him on an errand you hate (Home Depot on a Saturday morning?). Then, make his favorite for dinner. He gets to choose the Blockbuster rental and you sit thru it, even if it's the kind you usually hate. You can put it in a card & declare which day it will be- or even let him choose the date. Can you both play hooky from work on the same day & do it in the middle of the week? That's even more fun. The Spouse loves it when I do "it's all about you". No compromising of any kind, just a day of doing whatever she wants. |

If you both enjoy music, maybe you could burn him a mix CD. Or buy him a DVD of his favorite movie. |

Dave- That's hilarious, but the bidding has ended. Perhaps a heart-shaped potroast to go with the spud? |

It really depends on how long you've been together, but before my husband and I were married, (and some years after) I would always write him love notes or poems (some serious, some funny) usually in a handmade card. Over the years I've gotten him cute gifts and things he needs, even flowers (that I like of course), depends on my mood and what I find. I think for guys, it's not so much about the gift, esp. for Valentine's Day. I would almost advise NOT going out to eat but having a quiet dinner at home, lighting candles, and of course chocolate body paint and whipped cream work wonders.

Here's another idea, and you get something too. Lots of cosmetics companies, (like Clinique, for example), have bonus gifts now and they also have men's lines of shaving products, scrubs, etc. One year I got my husband a whole gift set of this stuff which he really enjoyed, and I ended up with a few freebies which I liked. |

Joan, one of our cats was afraid of the heart shaped helium balloon, but the other one seemed to have a lot of fun holding onto its ribbon. It was indeed thoughtful. |
