I'm in the market to purchase a digital camera, but would love to go to a store that has a KNOWLEDGEABLE owner/sales person. I've narrowed it down to two cameras and I've read through many reviews, but one of the cameras is newer and doesn't have all the reviews I'd like out there. Does anyone have any successful experience buying a digital camera from someone who really helped them make the choice and determine which was right for them? I just don't know that I'd trust the advice of the 18 year old part time sales clerk as Circuit City... |

I don't know about NJ, but I've gotten help from knowledgeable salesfolks at J&R in Manhattan. They seem to be more than one cut above the rest. Check out Kyocera's new camera. It takes a shot in seven HUNDREDTHS of a second. Other camers sometimes take half a second or more. That's a long time between the perfect picture and the subject moving or changing expression. I purchased a digital video cameral from B&H in NYC. 9th ave & 34th. I knew what I wanted already but they were helpful, cheapest price around and if you have them ship it to you, you don't have to pay sales tax. |

Another recommendation for B&H. I have made purcases online and in person and both experiences were top notch. Their prices are very good and I was surprised by how quickly they shipped the surround sound system to me... I ordered in the afternoon of a Tuesday and had it on a Thursday. |

The best advice I can give is do your own research on the net. I never go to Bestbuy or Circuit city with questions. By the time I get there, I know what I am buying. I bought the Canon digital Elph S230 and we have been very happy with it. They have a new model, I think the SD 100 or something which is also getting good ratings. Sony makes a great digital also and many models to choose from depending on your needs. |

Thanks all! I went to B&H yesterday and found the salesperson to be very knowledgeable. No sales pressure either (despite the long line behind me), and he didn't try pushing me into more expensive models or models that had more than I needed. Would recommend them to anyone else who's looking for electronics/digital cameras (although if you're into online shopping, they're definitely not the cheapest around -- their prices aren't bad, just not the best). |

WRT B&H and their prices. You can probably find a better price elsewhere, but its not going to be substantially lower. Also, If you have a problem with the purchase, B&H is very good with support and/or returns. If ordering on-line or by telephone, B&H also doesn't charge your credit card and then tell you after you complain about non-delivery that the item is not in stock. For more information about camera dealers, check out the forums (fora?) at popphoto.com. |

You can also shop at Unique Photo in Florham park, right near the Livingston Mall. They have B&H prices! http://uniquephoto.com |
