Someone is working very hard to improve that store. I have noticed drastic changes recently, from the personnel to the stores appearance to the inventory. My last three visits have been very pleasant. |

Rte. 22 is still way better. I found a storm door at Rte. 22 that they don't carry on Springfiled and this was just the most recent example. Service is still better on 22 also. It is worth the drive from the start to not have to go to both stores every time I need something nicer than a pack of nails. "You kids today have it easy. When I was a kid everything was HUGE. My dad was nearly four times bigger than me. You couldn't even see the tops of counters.... Then gradually everything became smaller until it was the manageable size it is today." |

I agree. Everyone loves the Rt 22 store. My friend in berkley heights even travels the distance to shop there. He thinks its better than the Watchung store closer to his home. |

I heard that Lowes is looking to open a store in the union area so maybe home depot is getting a little worried about their competition. |

I agree that the rt22 store is much better. It's weird that the place is NEVER crowded, though. (Especially when you consider that the neighboring Walmart is always a zoo). |

Yea they are the same and different. When SAG went on strike a couple of years ago Home Depot honored the strike.. Loews didnt "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky |

I am reasonably sure (I hope this isn't wishful thinking) that Lowes is going to open at the site of the old Bradleys on Route 22 East in Hillside at the junction with Vaux Hall Rd. Sorry Duncan on the union stuff but I like Lowes and my wife is a member of the CWA. When we are looking for service at Home Depot (yeah I know that is an oxymoron) we go up to the store on Route 10 in East Hanover. |

Duncan, I think we are talking about the Home Depot in "Union, NJ", not Home Depot honoring "unions". Former member of Local 342-50-Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union |

What does The Screen Actors Guild have to do with Homedepot and Lowes? |

Most of the workers at HD are SAG members. "You kids today have it easy. When I was a kid everything was HUGE. My dad was nearly four times bigger than me. You couldn't even see the tops of counters.... Then gradually everything became smaller until it was the manageable size it is today." |

Perhaps Lowes made commercials during the strike with non-union actors and Home Depot did not? |

An interesting thing to think about when comparing the two. The majority of HD workers are part time that do not qualify for benefits. Lowes is the opposite. The part time stuff I read in the WSJ a year or so ago. Bennies I found out from step father who is semi-retired and works in an Alabama HD. |

Using part time staff who do not qualify for benefits is a significant way for a company to reduce overhead and have the ability to undercut the competition when it comes to pricing their goods. This is just one of the things to consider before shopping at a store which advetises discount prices. |

Is it my imagination or have they tried to make the Springfield Ave store look a little more like a Lowes? (i.e. brighter lighting, shiny floor, etc) |
