Ignoring for the moment the sanctimonious claptrap of the FCC and the NFL over the Janet Jackson Nipple Incident (hereinafter, "JJNI"), a more interesting question arises (at least more interesting for those of us who would rather strip in front of a television audience of 100 million than pierce their own nipples). Why would one do that? Have any of MOL posters pierced their own nipples, and why? I am curious, spurred on by the JJNI: What is the most unusual body part you have pierced? Why did you do it? How old were you? And most importantly, do you regret it now? |

The regret thing is kind of a non issue. All piercings close up after non use with the exception of stretching your earlobes. I got my tongue pierced just to see how much it hurt. Hurt like a SOB. The worst was when I stuck my tongue out and couldn’t get it back in because the stud was blocking it from passing my teeth. Hurt like hell. I had to use my hands to open my mouth and then push my tongue in. I removed the stud promptly after that.

I have pierced the veil of absolute truth and transcendent beauty. Hurt like hell, but it scarred over from non-use pretty fast. |

I was going to say something about piercing the corporate veil, but now I feel inadequate. |

I had both nipples pierced and my tongue. I am 36, still have the tongue ring and plan on getting the nipples done again as soon as I shed some weight. Never regretted any of them.

Personally I actually have 5 peircings but they aren't that exciting. I have 4 in my left ear, two at the bottom and 2 in the cartilage, and then another in the cartilage of my right ear. I got my first one when I was 16, second at 17, third and fourth at 18, and fifth at 19. Although in between these piercings I have taken them out and for extended periods of time due to work so they have closed and I have gotten them repierced. More interesting than me are a few of my friends who have piercings. One has a tongue ring and to be honest with you I hardly notice it. The only I can tell is when he sticks his tongue out at me or someone else. He said it was was painful for the first week or so but once the swelling went down he said it was no trouble at all. I also have two female friends that have nipple piercings, they both seem to enjoy it and said it was no more painful than getting your ear pierced. One bad story I have heard about piercings is a guy got his eyebrow pierced and his body rejected it. Meaning that it was pushed out of his eyebrow, leaving a disgusting scar. |

My good friend is a male ObGyn near Bridegwater. When a teenage girl comes in and she DOESN'T have a belly button piercing he asks why not. He told us everyone has them.

Question: is it true the tongue piercings are a sexual thing? Every time I see someone with one of them I wonder to myself if that's the one for, you know, male or female pleasure? |

What could possibly be exciting about piercing your body parts? Are you so completely devoid of personality and thought that this is the alternative? I suppose it makes sense to teenagers, but to grown-ups? It's ostentatious -- just like excessive jewelry, furs and gaudy clothing. I suppose the goal is to just draw attention to yourself. |

Ligeti - lighten up.. and don't be such a fuddy-duddy. I've had pierced ears for 38 years (dad didn't talk to mom and me for two weeks!) I've known quite a few teens with various pierced body parts - all of them were great kids, most of them were great students. I'm not sure I would call it ostentatious for adults.. I think the two holes in my ears are all the piercings I'll ever want... but to each his own. |

I don't mean to suggest they aren't nice kids...in fact, I'm sure my daughter will shortly announce her piercing needs. But she is (shortly will be) a teen. They don't have fully-formed personalities yet. Earrings look great...but tongues, noses, sex organs, on grownups? It just signals to me an absence of content in their presentation. It never shocked me, but let's face it, that was the original intent. |

Tattoos? What, where, how old..... any regrets? I have a lily on my ankle. It was done by Spider Webb when I was 20. I'd seen a pictorial in Ms magazine about tattooed women that spoke to me at the time. Figured it'd teach me about permanence. It did. I've regretted it from time to time in my life, but now that I've lived over half my life with it, I'm happy for the reminder of what it was to be that young. |

I had my ears pierced when I was 16. My mother took me, because I had treatened to ask my best friend to do it. We went to a jeweler in Manhattan, who did a really neat job, and I didn't feel a thing. But my mother fainted.

I always wanted a butterfly on my shoulder... my mother discouraged me saying that when I'm 85 it would be all wrinkly and look more like the thing the butterfly emerged from. So.. I'll show her.... I'm getting a butterfly on my 85th birthday!! |

I've had a Prince Albert now for 3 years. Saw guys at Sandy Hook with them many summers, and thought they were cool. I don't think I'd let 90 million people see it on worldwide TV tho'. (I would show Justin Timberlake if he'd want to see it!) Bill at Pleasurable Piercings in Hawthorne did it. I highly reccomend him. The place was spotless. I looked at a few places in NYC, and they were all dumps compared to this place!
I have NO regrets about getting it! I've had a tattoo now for about 8 years, and may get one more sometime in the future. Got my tat at Shotsie's up on Rt. 23 in Wayne. I would go back to them too. |
