Any updates on Papillon 25? (the restaurant next to the wine store on Valley)?

We are thinking of dining there next week

Just be sure to wear the right shoes ;-)

See my earlier posting on the topic...we haven't been back since they said my husband's best athletic shoes violated dress code, on a cold and rainy Sunday night, when dress shoes were a bad idea. I'm curious to hear how they are doing -- we might try again someday.

I went to Pap 25 and I too thought the food was wonderful - the drinks too! I just ask if there is anyone who knows the owners to tell them they have a serious service problem that could kill the restaurant. Our service was miserable -I won't go into detail but most every waitress/guest interaction was screwed up. A table near ours stormed out because they waited 35 minutes for their drinks. A friend went recently just for drinks and noticed a large group came in to do the same and waited for more than 20 minutes at the bar for help. No one ever helped them - and they left. I want to see this restaurant succeed but they must improve upon their staff that at the moment appear inept and indifferent.

This place has been open waaaay too long to still have such an amateurish wait staff in place. The gaffes and generally poor service (repeatedly documented here) have no place at a would-be spiffy restaurant/lounge.

The fault clearly lies with whomever is running the front of the house. The kitchen seems more than adequate, and deserves a lot better support than it's been getting.

Unless the management wises up, radically improves service, and gets past its petty "no sneakers" (and other such ludicrous) rules, who will shell out $100 per couple just to eat there more than once?

I hope these problems are rectified, but if they're not, I don't forsee a long tenure for this establishment. What a waste that would be...

I understand that rather than improve the service, the owners are focussing their efforts on expanding the business into part of the adjacent liquor store. They plan to create a separate "VIP" lounge.

Papillion certainly rates an "A" for the decor, but the service does need much improvement. We were there the night of a snowstorm, had bad service, but chalked it up to being shorthanded. We went again more recently & found the service to still be lacking.

As for the food, personally, I wasn't that impressed. The presentation is very nice, but I just didn't find it to be that exceptional, especially considering how pricey the place is.

I'm glad it's here in town & I hope it does well. I just don't see it as a place that we frequent as often as a place like Cafe Arugula, where I have always found the service & food to consistently be very good.

I have been to Papillon 4 times since it has opened and have found the service to be very good everytime I have been there. Also I love the food there especailly the fish dishes.

We were there Saturday night, and will not be back except maybe for drinks at the bar. We got there early (7:30) for an 8:15 reservation for four and proceeded to sample a few martinis at the bar. All well and good...they knew we were "in the house" in case our table opened up early...but by 8:30 we were still not seated despite the fact that there were open tables. We were finally seated at 8:40. Service was slow and disorganized. One of us never got a seltzer - at all, despite asking over and over. And the food was outrageously priced. The tab for four people was well over $200, almost $250 if I recall. And while it's nice to dress for dinner, the no-jeans policy is a pain after a long week of working in the city and just wanting to relax a bit on weekends. It's not as if we're going to show up in grubby jeans; well-pressed nice jeans with nice shoes and a jacket certainly won't wreck the place. All in all, we felt our food was OK, but not worth the prices, and they need to really beef up the quality of the service.

They should hand you a tube of KY with your check!
I really can't see paying those prices with that kind of service and lack of disorganization!
Take a train into NYC instead, wher you will find the the BEST food in the world!
