Interested in finishing our basement and would like to put in wall to wall carpet. How much would it cost to do a 20 x 12 room with decent carpet? Basement will be for the kids. |

That is about 27 square yards. Carpet runs from $20 a yard up installed over padding. You will probably also want to carpet the stairs which will add to the cost.
Just make sure that your floor is absolutely dry and sealed. Wet, or even damp carpeting leads to mold and mildew, not a pleasent experience.

In addition to making sure the floor is dry you can buy special padding made for cement/basement floors. I would also avoid wool carpet in favor of synthetic as wool will mildew more quickly. We have a pretty cheap synthetic carpet and a great thick pad. In fact the pad cost more than the carpet. Definitely worth it, makes the carpet feel great. |
