It really saddens me to see such blatant vandalism. One evening I saw just white paint covering the wall and the next evening the graffiti was there. This was a 2-day effort and the white paint was their canvas. If I see such a thing again I'll notify the police so maybe they can catch them. People have worked hard over the years to paint murals on those walls and their work has been appreciated by thousands. It's sad that there are other people who just don't care....

Yes, it saddens me.

There is a tag at the train station that reads "graffiti is art, deal with it"

And the thing was, it was not creative at all.
There is.

I've found it very disappointing too. I'd happily contribute towards a fund buying anti-graffiti paint for the mural painters to use.

I recall passing through the south underpass at the train station one Saturday morning and seeing an abandoned sketch of a graffiti tag and an array of spray paint cans scattered about the stairs leading down from the center platform.

How brazen do these graffiti artists have to become before something is done about the problem

Here is my suggestion.
1. Put a guy with a shotgun in the window of the post office facing the underpass.
2. Wait for graffiti "artist" to commence "tagging".
3. Shoot "artist" in the neck so his squirting jugular paints his last "tag" of his life on the wall.
4. Repeat if necessary. Works for bloods or crips.

A person deserves to die for painting graffiti?

All of the great ones suffer for their art.....

Just kidding. I do think it's a bit extreme, although having my car vandalized in my own driveway makes me think that a cap in the ass - not lethal, but the ultimate "can't sit down for a week" lesson- is not such a bad thing....

If they like to paint so much, perhaps a little community service is called for? Do we have any seniors in the area who need their homes painted but can't afford it?

True, it wouldn't give you guys (ie brett, mike, luv) the same satisfaction, but there are all kinds of "lessons" and I prefer constructive ones.

I'm pretty sure that Marie Stratchek (Sp). had a lot to do with the current art. Contact her if you want to help put it back or move it to the next level of form.

Would setting aside a portion of the tunnel walls for individual pieces by tag artists be giving in to them or channeling their art in a more constructive manner?

assumes these artists can be identified and would be willing to participate.

How about making the defacing of public property a $1000.00 fine. Payable by their parents , if the perp can't pay it. Perhaps this will be a insentive for MPD . Let them keep all of it. Nothing breaks down a area like graffiti.

Regarding grafitti "artists": Hanging's too good for them. Burning's too good for them. They should be torn into itty bitty pieces and buried alive.
