Both my garage door openers are broken. I don't know if they can be repaired or need to be replaced. Conbahr Doors in Irvington was recommended to me and I had an appointment for this afternoon, but they didn't show. Can anyone recommend someone? (A search of the archives didn't turn up anything.) Thanks!

Skillman Doors 973-762-5885. They did garage door/door opener work for us. Would recommend them.

If you buy the openers at sears they do installation using local contractors for 109 for the first opener and a little less for the second....they have a couple of openers (at essex green) on closeout .. 125 or something close ... and right now ... (god I'm sounding like a commercial) if you use your Sears Charge you get an additional 10% off.

Alan Dynan--Elite Garage Door--used to live on Orchard in Mapelwood, now is in West Orange. He's honest, prompt, available by phone, and a nice guy who helped us save money by fixing an old door and motor as long as we could. I strongly recommend him, even if just for a consult. 973-731-8800.

Alan Dynan did work for us yesterday, and I heartily second compsy's recommendation.

Our garage door mechanism works just fine, but I would like an opener with a different signal. We had a bad experience with a local contractor and he refused to return one of our openers. Does anybody know if changing the signal only is possible?

My door was broken, I thought, until I greased the whole works with lithium grease. Now it works fine. it's probably 30 years old, and might not have been lubed in that long for all I know. Very cold weather seemed to mess up the tracking a little, too.

Might be worth a try!

If you just need new signals for the remote both HD and Sears sell aftermarket signal devices.
