i was painting the ceiling in my dining room when the doorbell rang. usually i check who is at the door from the upstairs window (i do not have a peep hole) but the phone had been ringing all day and i just opened the front door. there was a guy standing there. i asked him what he wanted? his reply was unusual and he asked me why i was asking him that question. he clearly had no reason to be ringing my door bell. this whole thing seemed strange. i slammed the door shut and called 911. i do not know if he meant any harm but he really freaked me out. he is Jamaican, 30ish, driving a honda. i guess an 1987.

Classifying his reply as "unusual" isn't informative. What was his actual response? |

dave perhaps it was the wrong house. he did not seem to be looking for anyone. generally when you ring someone's doorbell you ask the question "does x live here." tototoo, his response was unusual. when i asked him what he wanted he asked me why i was asking him that. he was the one who rang my doorbell. again i asked him what he wanted. his asked me again why was i asking him that question. the conversation went on in that vein for a few more moments. imo he rang my bell for no reason. |

Barbara, I hate to be alarmist but as I am pretty sure this is in your mind anyway, I'll let you know that we were burgled a couple of weeks after having an odd encounter at our door. My husband (an ex cop himself) regretted not calling the cops after the "visit" even before we were burgled. He is convinced the guy was casing us. We didn't have an alarm system back then unfortunately. |

akb, the idea that my home was being cased crossed my mind as well. a few years ago my garage was broken into. i caught the thieves who had backed their van into my driveway as they were trying to load my lawn mover into their vehicle. my snowblower was already in their van. i got their license plate but the van was stolen. the police told me that these thieves drive around the neighborhood casing houses. thanks for your input. i am glad that i called the police. i hope that nothing comes of this. |
