My girlfriend's back is really killing her. She says that she has a slipped disc. She's gone to physical therapy for this problem before, but it didn't do much and eventually the problem seemed to go away on its own (after quite a long time), but now it's back. Does anybody know of a chiropractor or somebody who could help with this kind of thing? |

Go to an actual doctor, a specialist, one who will send her to get an MRI and do an actual analysis of the problem before twisting and cracking things all over the place. If the Dr. is not going to do an MRI or some other objective analysis I'd say thanks, goodbye, and try another. A spine is not something to self-treat.

Dr. Goldberg on Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange is a wonderful chiropractor. He will not "twist and crack" things until he has done a complete assessment - he has even sent people for MRIs. He has a mild approach - not at all aggresive.

I had this when I was a mere 27 years old. It was excruciating. The disc pressed on the sciatic nerve, and all the pain was in my leg. I couldn't stand or walk. Physical therapy didn't work for me. I ended up having surgery, which went great, and I'm in much better shape now. But everyone's condition is different. I can comiserate with your girlfriend if that helps. I can say that surgery is survivable and even helpful to some. Tom Reingold the prissy-pants There is nothing

Encourage your girlfriend to see a doctor for a more current diagnosis. After several years, the condition could have deteriorated. By now, more than one disc could be involved. My sister went through this. After years of painful denial followed by medication and physical therapy she opted for the surgery. The recovery time was minimal and she is very much the better for it. |
