We used to go to a couple of restaurants (eg Rusty Pelican, Miami) when we lived in Florida where you'd pay a set price, $25 and up, and then could get a really good Sunday brunch - eggs, seafood, roast meats, salads, veg, and a whole array of desserts. They serve champagne/OJ (all included) and you got up to serve yourself the food.

Is there anywhere like that near Maplewood for families? (Obv we'll have to do without the sea view!!)

Thanks

The Hilton at Short Hills is the best one. Summit Hunt Club is ok too.

Take a 45 min drive down the Parkway and go to the Molly Pitcher in Red Bank... great food AND a lovely water view!

Also, try Rod's in the Madison Hotel, just up 24 in Convent Station. They have a nice brunch buffet, good variety, lovely setting, and reasonably priced -- MUCH cheaper than the Short Hills Hilton. Check out their website: http://www.rodssteak-seafoodgrill.com/about.html

The pub at the Black Horse Inn at Mendham. I don't know the pricing, but you do usually need reservations. http://www.blackhorsenj.com/

The Manor in West Orange does one - we used to go all the time for Father's Day. It's up there with the Short Hills Hilton on the spendy scale.

Essex House on Northfield Ave in West Orange.

I think the train car used to be part of the Rod's restaurant) in Convent Station.

Price isnt listed (it used to be) but I think it is about $20/pp.

I wouldn't go to the Essex House. We recently went there for their Sunday brunch. It was horrendous. The place has definitely seen better days (our booth was dilapidated with the blinds tattered). The food was cold and congealed. Save your money

I agree with J&J's assessment of the Essex House. Truly disappointing.

There's a restaurant called Rolf's in Warren that puts on a pretty good brunch, complete with mimosas. That said, thanks for starting this thread, as we now have a list of alternates to explore.

correction: Main Street Cafe, Madison.
Really nice brunch, not overly fancy or expensive.

We just took my inlaws to the Chart HOuse in Weehawken for a birthday brunch. It was wonderful. Food was good, beautiful view of the city (the restaurant is on a pier on the Hudson.) I think it was around $30 pp, kid was free. She had a great time watching all of the helicopter traffic. Great banquet seat so she was sort of kept inside by the adults. Highly recommend for a nice brunch.

The Hamilton Park Conference Center on Park Avenue, Florham Park (a left turn off Columbia Turnpike, which is South Orange Avenue extended) has an excellent brunch and a beautiful dining room with nice view. You will also discover this relatively unknown local gem of a hotel.
