Does anyone know who exactly I have to call to get this? What is the procedure? |

You have to go to Town Hall... you may be able to talk your real estate agent into doing the leg work... we did. Cost is minimal... somewhere around $30. |

We also got our realtor to do this for us...that is, when we moved into maplewood. I seem to remember it being about $30, but you have to go during the day to get it done, then schedule a time when they can come inspect. |

Sounds as if you have you done some major renovations before moving into your new house. If so, the Certificate of Occupancy inspection will determine whether your new house is sufficiently up to code for you to safely live there. It is not a proforma procedure. The inspector may require that additional work be done before the Certificate of Occupancy is issued. If you are not moving from too far away, I would definitely try to be present when the inspection is made. If you can't be there, try to get someone who does not have a vested interest in completing the closing/sale to be there as your representative. |
