Does anyone know if there is bus service on any of these streets from SO Avenue? Or a jitney, for that matter? How would one get to the SO/WO Gregory area without a car?

The West Orange Jitney from the South Orange Station does stop on the corner of Gregory?Luddington. I don't know if you can get the the train station or what the schedule is but I hope this is a start!

Call West Orange Town Hall and ask. I don't have the number off hand but I am sure that it is listed.
The last time I got a schedule I approached the idling Jitney in the CVS lot and asked the driver. I think that the meet 3 or 4 trains in the evening and deposit at the SO Station 3 or 4 times in the am. Good luck< Deb.

Back in the days when I was commuting by bus, there was a bus which ran along Scotland Road (from South Orange Avenue) but I don't see it listed on NJT's website so they may have discontinued it.

Have you tried calling NJT's general information number for trip information?
