Hello, Anyone know of a place I can get a piece of door glass replaced on my 55 Chevy? Doesn't have to be good, or cheap, just has to get done so I can get my car inspected. Hopefully in the next 8 days. I'd prefer if it was close: Millburn, Maplewood, S. Orange. Thanks! Curt |

I remember that a friend of mine got a windshield replaced at a small auto glass store in Summit. It is on Morris Ave, right next to the Huntley Tavern. I don't know the name, but perhaps looking up "Auto Glass" under Yahoo Yellow Pages would help. Marc www.millburnweb.com

Try Dubin Auto & Plate Glass, 1171 Stuyvesant Ave. in Irvington. 973-373-2555. It's really easy to get to from Maplewood - Take Boyden Ave. all the way to Stuyvesant, turn right, and it's a few blocks down on the right. You should probably call to see if you need an appointment. We had auto glass replaced there a couple of months ago. |

You probably need to work with someone connected to a car junkyard. Don't know of any offhand but you could call a junkyard and ask if they could point you to a reliable autobody person who comes in for older cars. Good luck. Cathy |

Sorry to hear that, Curt. Just FYI, they did the work while I waited - 2 or 3 hours. I brought something to read and sat in their tiny waiting room. |

In Jersey City on Comunipaw Ave there are several auto glass repair places located between Westside Ave & Kennedy Blvd..They have been located there since at least WWII . Don't know the names , but probably a good bet. |

You've probably already had it fixed by now, but I thought I'd add my recommendation in case someone's reading this through the archives. We used Safelite Auto Glass - it's a large chain with lots of locations. But no need to go to one of their offices - THEY come to you. We had one windshield repaired in our driveway, and another replaced at my office, and both times they were prompt, got the job done efficently (I think my replacement took about an hour), and did a good job. Their # is 1-800-800-ASAP. |

I'm in touch with Avenue Auto Body in West Orange. They specialize in restoring older cars... and mine is going on 50. The guy there is very cordial and helpful. He's hooking me up with that place mentioned earlier in Summit. The operative word in this post is "55 Chevy" which makes getting the "come to you" guys impossible. Those guys won't do what amounts to custom work that way. At least thats been my experience. I used Safelite to do the autoglass replacement back in DE and that's what they said then. But, thanks anyway. Curt
