The cooling coils on our refrigerator are underneath the unit, and they're accumulating a lot of dust. As far as I can tell, the coils are completely inaccessible via conventional means using a brush like this:

Here are the challenges:

There's a metal grate at the front of the unit with very, very narrow openings that are only about 1/4 inch wide. I cannot fit anything wider than a coat hanger underneath the refrigerator to access the coils.

A standard household vacuum doesn't provide enough suction to pull off the dust from around the coils. I thought about pulling out the refrigerator, tipping it over, and vacuuming from underneath, but there's an aluminum plate between the floor and the coils that blocks access.

What I need is a long, narrow brush like this:

Unfortunately, web sites like these are wholesale only, or require you to buy 10-12 units, which means I could spend $50 or more for a single brush.

Any ideas? Have any of you come across brushes like this in the area? Home Depot doesn't have any, but maybe someone can recommend a specialty shop.

The low front grille on your fridge should 'snap off' its held (well most are held) with spring clips. Then you can generally get a vacuum cleaner crevice tool in the gap.

if you check on www.improvementscatalog.com you will find they sell a vacuum attachment (by the each) specifically for this job. They also sell a brush for those hard to remove stuck dust bunnies.

I just saw the brush you need at Home Depot. It is on the GE Appliance display just at the Kitchen remodel area.

$9.95 Each.
