Our composer is coming, our composer is coming!

What's this all about? Maplewood/South Orange is one of six communities in the country chosen this year for the prestigious Continental Harmony project.

For several weeks over the next year, we'll have a composer in residence who will work with local community bands, orchestras, school groups, choirs ... many configurations of musical groups ... and will meet with community members and then compose a 40-minute suite for voice and instrument representing our two towns. The piece will premiere on July 3, 2005, right here in MSO - at a performance mounted with local musicians.

Janet Albright will arrive this weekend for the first of her visits. She has a hectic schedule -- between school visits, band rehearsals and choir practices. The community is invited to meet her at an open reception at the 1978 Gallery -- 1978 Springfield Avenue, Maplewood, on March 7 from 4 - 6 pm.

If you'd like to participate in this project, call Barbara at the Community Coalition (973-761-6116 x2) or email info@twotowns.org. The Community Coalition is one of the partner organizations in this endeavor along with the Fine Arts Department of the School District, Youth Orchestras of Essex County, Maplewood Community Bands, Stirling Chamber Orchestras, Opera for the Young, the Cultural Arts Departments of Maplewood and South Orange, the Adult School, and many local jazz musicians.

Please allow me to bump it up a little higher...

If any of you haven't had the pleasure of meeting this lovely woman, you're missing out on a real treat.

This is history in the making folks. Ms. Albright is collecting data for creating her new music; music that will exemplify the very heartbeat of what makes our community tick. I would highly recommend making an effort to meet with her at one of her many stops throughout our two towns.

As Barbara said, the best way to do this would be is to learn more about this at http://www.twotowns.org/coalition_news.php#02070212uyspou50
