Another defining moment in Maplewood’s history is at hand, come be a part of it... The Maplewood Board of Adjustment has scheduled a public hearing at 8:00 P.M., Monday, March 1, 2004 to decide on whether or not they should settle the continuing litigation with the bed and breakfast, Les Saisons, located at 304 Elmwood Avenue. This is the time for residents to voice support or opposition to having a Bed and Breakfast in our community, and is an opportunity to have a say about the town continuing to spend thousands of dollars of our tax money to go on with the present litigation. I invite everyone who agrees that having a Bed and Breakfast is an asset for our town, and would like to see the litigation end, to please attend the meeting next Monday night and show your support for the settlement. Your comments would be appreciated. Thank you. Art Christensen

Good luck Art!!!!!! Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation .. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

ART.. I will be there in spirit only. I am completely of the opinion (besides for the obvious reasons) that your place is an asset to the community. I have a performance monday night in the city or I would ABSOULTELY be there to throw my support behind your cause. But I will be thinking of you and crossing my fingers. Alls Well That Ends Well. The B&B is important to South Orange as well. I wonder tho, if my presence at the meeting would be considered out of place. Hope all works out well for you, Art and Libby! NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it. |

Will quiet support at the meeting be helpful to the B&B or only vocal support? Just wonering what your supporters should expect. |

Good luck, Art. I think the board is a little different now, since the last vote. A few people left and Ken Petis brought in some new people.

good luck with your fight. considering you've been there longer then most of the people in the neighborhood, if they don't like it, they shouldn't have bought in the neighborhood. |

Thank you Gemini, the Board is a lot different now, since the last vote. I believe there are four new members, plus I have been told two members have already excused themselves from voting. Seeing as how the hearing is not about the issues the previous Board had to deal with, it shouldn't matter all that much. The vote before the Board will be on whether to settle this matter out of court, or to just continue the litigation and the legal costs to both sides. Librarylady and Jab, I'd be happy for any kind of support I get. If you like, you can sit next to me in silence and just smile once in a while... My sincere thanks to everyone who has posted thus far. I hope others will consider commenting this week as well. |

Just Me in SO... I am a big supporter of Art's & my family has stayed there in the past. That being said, we had no idea that Les Saisons was around when we purchased in the neighborhood 7 years ago. It was not pointed out by our realtor when she showed us all the conveniences and amenities & we never saw it advertised until here on MOL, about 3-4 years ago (?). If you know Art's property, you know that it is set back from the street & surrounded by trees. It's not like he's got a big neon "L" sign out front to notice. We asked many questions about the neighborhood before we made the offer on the house & drove around at different times of day during the week to check things out; it still never occurred to us to ask if any of the neighbors ran a B&B. So, I think you are being pretty harsh. FWIW, I hope Art & Libby are able to continue operating a peaceful neighborhood place. I think that, without the big parties and sound systems, no one should complain. I'm more concerned about my next door neighbor's teenager, who blasts the stereo in her bedroom so loud that I hear it in my den.... |
