Katie: As one who has taken a lot of abuse on here, I hope you feel you can keep posting on here. We would all be curious to know who told you to stop posting your opinion, but you are probably better off not stating who the person is whether he can sue you or not. However, if you think the person might do something to harm you or a family member becasue of your opinions, then you should contact the police. |

Katie, If someone called you & told you not to voice your opinion, I would not think it is slander to reveal that person's name if it is true. Go ahead and share your opinion. |

Katie, Please don't stop writing here. I, for one, find your posts very refreshing and spirited. This town and this board need young citizens like yourself who are involved in the town's affairs and who have the guts to express their opinion on this board under their own name, not under the camouflage of a pseudonym. There are many of us who appreciate your contributions here. And please be prepared to take criticism for what it actually is: only someone else's opinion. The person who called you was expressing his/her opinion in an inappropriate way. But if there was any threat in that phone call you should call the police. Please don't leave this board. Eric

lizzie: Many people have posted very offensive posts on here. The difference between Katie and some of those others is that she has the guts to use her name while speaking her mind. That is the reason she has to deal with a phone call from some person, not because of what she posted.

Katie's posts have been about more than posting. They've been pretty far-ranging from asking for donations and volunteers for the rescue squad to calling attention to a unhealthy garbage condition in back of an apartment complex. She's also been a strong supporter of the S.O. police in her posts. Thanks Katie. You bring a lot to this forum. Keep posting. |

I have to agree. I really appreciate a new poster taking the plunge and be willing to use his/her real name. I have so much more respect for non-anonymous opnions even if I disagree with them. The only thing Katie, is that I wish you'd take a little more time and proof read your posts. It is distracting from what you have to say to wade through typos and misspellings. I'm the first to misspell a word or two(hey,Rosses, any chance of spell check?), but it would be less distracting if you'd use the opportunity to reread your posts before finally okaying them. I know that younger posters really spend less time on punctuation and grammar and that it is the meaning of the words that is important, but..... I agree with LibraryLadyI am probably the worst speller in the county and if we could somehow get a spell check for posts it would be great. And Katie I dont mind your mispelling because I dont even notice since I cant spell either . Most importantly I agree with Cmontyburns, I also like pancakes. |

Hey LL...regarding this statement: I know that younger posters really spend less time on punctuation and grammar and that it is the meaning of the words that is important, but..... Why do you think this has anything to do with age? What is the age cut off for spending time to make sure your post has perfect grammer and spelling?

It's not a matter of punctuation and grammar. Kids (and I mean anyone younger than me are so use to texting and ims that that way of communicating has become their default. Teachers are starting to complain that even research papers are taking on the appearance of long text messages. My grammar and spelling certainly aren't perfect, or even good. But I make an attempt to edit and correct obvious errors before I hit the post button. It just makes it easier for readers to "get" what I am saying. <3 143 L8ter cya NCJ aka LibraryLady On a coffee break..or something like it.

Katie, Say whatever you hear...Gossip or Fact or whatever unless your actually there then there will be some question to the truth when dealing with miserable liberal idiots. However, remember everyone here is a know it all and you need to word your posts specifically otherwise the anonymous will attack you. To everyone else, LETS FACE IT...IF YOU LIVE IN TOWN...YOU CAN HEAR WHATS GOING ON THROUGH SOME SOURCE OR ANOTHER. Lets leave the personal attacks alone, because at least Katie came on here without a pretend name and isn't hiding in their enormous house somewhere up in Newstead while they work from home. Isn't there a democrate trying to get into the Whitehouse...maybe some of the liberals need to stop questioning every word of invididual postings on this site like a bad attorny and put some effort into getting their awful candidates elected! |

The attraction of MOL for me, at least, is that my privacy and anonymity are guaranteed. I am not hiding in a big house in Newstead--if only I were! But my privacy is important to me. I wouldn't be here at all if I had to identify myself. Is a democrate any relation to a republicane? |

Many of our finest posters are anonymous. It's rarely the poster's identity that matters, but more the content of a post. Ben Franklin wrote under many assumed names, as well. I rarely find an online community with real names that holds as much interest as MOL. I read the Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's autobiography last year and he said something along the lines of "people are more themselves while pretending to be other people." He was talking about actors and I still don't entirely understand what he's saying, but it's something to ponder in relation to online identities. I'll try to find the exact quote. |
